Gaining more A-list calibur by the year, big names like host Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Paula Abdul, America Ferrera and even Disney darling Senela Gomez were on hand to lend some star power to the ceremony.
Eva is not just the host of the awards, but also the executive producer of the event which celebrates the outstanding artistic achievements of Latinos in motion pictures, TV and music.
Of the star-studded affair, fashion guru Steve Cojocaru tells Variety: “For the Almas this year, the word is sex. And it’s absolutely glamorous. The Latin stars really know how to dress up. They’re not afraid of their sexuality. And they’ve got the perfect host in Eva. That’s glamour.”

Wow, from those pictures, Eva and Jessica are definitely best dressed there. America’s usually so lovely, but that dress is a little too busy for her, I think.

That dress on Jessica Alba is gross.

Adam, wtf are you talking about???? If you’re bothered by this awards show then maybe you’re the racist.
Jessica Alba looks a mess.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Why the HELL does everyone look 3 feet tall??
August 18th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
hotbitch…i’m as colorblind as it gets. but this is so FKNG dated…and i’m tired of separatism and apartheid and race focused events.
where is the AEMA? european? did non latins win awards?
do we need an award show for every ethnicity?
what about the marsh arabs?
PURE RACISM that leads to MORE RACISM.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm

I agree with Adam. We can have Latino events, and Black (BET, etc) events…. and I amsure if our Asian population was bigger we would have things dedicated to them. But Gog forbid if we have an event or something that is dedicated to white people. Cuz, you know, that would be racist. I don’t care what any one says, it is a very separist thing to do. People fought hard in this country for desegregation. And we still segregate… although by choice not force. I’m not racist one bit…. My family is interracial…..And I love the idea of celebrating cultures…. But if white people do it, its racist and offensive!! WTF?
August 18th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Selena looks gorg! I can’t believe people compare her to that trailer trash, Miley Cyrus. There is no comparison! Eva, you’re beautifu but your man is FUG! And Paula, there are no words.

This whole entire country revolves around whites so don’t give me that shit. Now when ‘minority’ groups choose to hold events to recognize their heritage (that, btw is not taught in schools) everyone has something to say! If you are white then you cannot possibly speak on the subject. Everything is catered to your race. Absolutely everything. Take off the blinders and try for one second to walk in someone else’s shoes. Oh, and you do have awards shows that are dedicated to white people. They’re called the Grammys, Academy Awards, Emmys, Tonys, etc. You can count on one hand the number of blacks that have won an Academy Award. You think that’s coincidence??????? A perfect example of this is the fashion photographer who just spoke out about not being allowed to photograph blacks. THAT is why we have mags such as Ebony, Jet, Latina, Hispanic, etc. So basically, when mainstream/white America begins to equally accept and acknowledge contributions from peoples of color then we can stop with the so-called ’separatism’. Trust me, I hate it just as much as you do….

This must be the year that these soon-to-be maid and waitresses decided to all dress like clowns.
100% MUY FEO!!!

hotbitch. It must be cool to think you can say when people can talk or not—or what color my skin should be so you’ll listen…when do you think we might be all square? and since more latinos are racist against blacks, than whites…why hitch up to their plight now? and when might be able to talk again? considering i’ve actually been a victim on multiple accounts of reverse racism, i’ll kindly ask you to re-evaluate this situation. you hotbitter victim you! you and i may blame certain whites in the past, and an ever decreasing amount nowadays; but at least i give european ancestors their due credit for inventing this insane world we live in—where all races can co-exist. where TRIBALISM means nothing. we didn’t just magically all appear here with laptops, cars, grocery stores and air conditioners and relative peace and prosperity.
Look, i’m not MUCH of an awards show fan, and i can’t speak on the academy awards but i know for certain that ALL races win the others…in fact LOTS of awards and recognition. in fact, i’d bet they win more than the 12% of the population they each respectively represent. in your perfect race obsessed world, i suppose each ethnicity would win according to their exact proportion. and maybe whites should be punished for having so easy and being so racist all these years. should we sit in the penalty box hotbitch?!?!
furthermore, in forty years whites will be a minority…will your by-then-old-ass endorse the WET tv station and the IVORY mag?
these types of programs, and focusing on ethnicity is only holding us all back. maybe you prefer to believe that all whites have it out for you. if i moved to mexico or dominican republic or somalia for that matter, COULD I EVER BE A MEXICAN? no hotbitch. could i ever be a CAMBODIAN? no hotbitch.
all americans ask is that whatever race you are, you say you are an american-and usually, you’ll get treated like one. it’s the only country (besides canada) that this happens with.
THERE ARE NO HYPHENATED AMERICANS!
August 18th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.
This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.
But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English- Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian- Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic.
The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American.

Watching Entertainment Tonight, (I can’t believe they would put this on TV), America Ferrera is being interviewed at the Alma Awartds and said, “White people have no place at the Alma Awards.” Not only did it go unnoticed, as usual, but my white liberal Democrat friend justified it. I have been watching Ugly Betty since day one, but no more. “America” is a bigot.
