We didn’t want to write about it because we didn’t want it to be true, but it’s been confirmed — Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and may only have weeks to live.
The 55-year-old Dirty Dancing star is suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.
UPDATE: Now, his rep has released an official statement: “Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick’s physician Dr. George Fisher states, “Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.†Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family.â€
UPDATE: According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest of all malignancies, with a 5% five-year survival rate. It is a silent killer, typically producing no symptoms until it’s already too late to operate. Tumors are so tenacious that chemotherapy has little effect.

It is really awful. All I hope is that Patrick’s illness raises awareness in men to get checked out the same way Kylie Minogue having breast cancer encouraged many young women to get tested.

He’s had so many great movie roles: Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Too Wong Fu, Road House. And especially the chippendales skit on Saturday Night Live with Chris Farley! One of the classic skits from SNL, and not just because of Chris.
Oh no!! So sad!! I think cancer is just one of the scariest things ever as we just have no real control over it. Who its going to effect or the course its going to run. I pray that Patrick is strong enough to get through this and that he will come out the other side of this disease. My thoughts are with him and his family.

I saw Patrick’s wife Lisa on Broadway once. They have one of the longest celebrity marriages–at least twenty years. My best wishes to them at this difficult time.

At this point it’s been 2.5 years since i was diagnosed with pancretic cancer. Whipple procedure and chemo with radiation and of course for me positive attidude , diet , exercise , and most importantly for me my spiritual beliefs. These have gotten me where i’m today, 1 day at a time. Now i cherish every day and try to stay in Gratitude and Acceptance for everything that is presented to ( even the Cancer ). So if anyone knows how to get this message to Mr Swayze just to let him know that that there is survivors of this disease Please pass it on .Casey

I hope only the best for Mr Swayze. He is a tremendous actor. Cancer is such a bitch doesn’t care how it affects people. I have terminal prostate cancer and of course that is another terrible thing to go through. Mr Swayze was terrific in Roadhouse and Ghost.I sure which he had more time to make wonderful entertaining pictures. Mr Swayze if you read this please hang in there, fight it and with so much research going on maybe a cure is around the corner. Norman Cousin has a good quote: accept the diagnosis but do not accept the verdict. Please stay positive!!
My husband, Jerry, has been diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer in June 2008 and is fighting the disease with chemo, Gemzar. I would like to know what the type of treatment or chemo that Patrick Swayze is getting. My husband’s great-grandfather died of pancreatic and liver cancer 96 years ago which we found out through his death certificate. Now my husband, age 62 has been diagnosed with the same. Could someone ask Patrick if any of his great-grandfathers, great uncles, grandfather’s or anyone in his family ever had the disease? It is good to know family medical history. Our doctor says, “Call it bad luck for both guys”. We are praying for a miracle for a cancer cure.
I forgot to mention that my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when he went to the doctor after he noticed that there were several nodules (like marbles) at his belly button. The nodules didn’t hurt but he wanted to doctor to tell him what was the cause. The doc then ordered a CT scan to confirm his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. It had already spread to the liver and intestine. A tumor attached itself to the intestine so a surgery was required, and he has a colostomy now. It is an aggressive cancer but we try to remain positive and enjoy every day!!

mr. swayze, i saw your interview the other nite. i was diagnosed with colon rectal cancer in 2006. i am in advanced stage. you are the first one i have seen in an interview that told how it is. thank you.. so many don’t i tell people that no matter what they are told, cancer is no fun. i too have told people that i am either too stupid to realize how serious this or i have an overabundance of faith that tells me i am going to be ok. i too have spent time in the bathroom wondering what the heck is going to happen and how, i am 64 years old and i have a great amount of faith. from the time i was diagnosed i have known i am going to be ok when this is over. i laugh and i cry and i hold things more precious now than before. if someone on your staff would contact me and give me an address, i have somethings i would like to share with you. some i wrote and some have been given to me. i try to give them to people i meet at the cancer center here in town and to pastors etc. to pass on to other surviors. god bless you and thank you for all you are doing in the fight against cancer, don’t ever give up. and remember the smallest step towards the top of the mountain is the biggest step forward. tom williams
Here in Florida there is a man who has discovered treating cancer with radio waves. He has been on local TV about it. The medical profession is VERY interested in his findings. Perhaps Patrick could look into it. It is not some crazy idea. It might be worth a try

My mum was told in july 2008 she has pancreatic cancer which is terminal and it has now spread to her liver and lungs and now she is in a hospice because she can’t do anything. we have been told in the last few days she only has days or maybe a week left. I live in Michigan and on a TV show they where talking to a doctor some place who was wiping out (I believe he said pancreatic cancer) by burning it to kill it with no returns as long as it hasn’t traveled outside the area. should double check just to make sure I’m remembering correctly. I do believe I’m right and it could possible save his life.

I actually know of someone who has cured various types of terminal cancers. However, due to the law preventing such claims, is unable to openly claim such success. This healer in fact agrees with such a law as there are too many swindlers claiming their lies to be the truth.
