Tom Hanks‘ new Angels and Demons movie has been refused by the Italian Catholic Church to film in churches in Rome because the Church is still fuming over The Da Vinci Code.
Filming on the highly anticipated sequel began this month at some of the capital’s most famous sights (like the Piazza del Pantheon shown here), but entry was denied to the churches of Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria.
As you may recall, The Da Vinci Code outraged the Vatican and many Catholics because of its story line that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children, creating a royal blood line that Church officials kept secret for centuries. Christians are taught that Jesus never married, was crucified and rose from the dead.
Yeah, because that’s more believable!

“I’ve actually gone on a pop-culture fast. The TV shows and gossip magazines — it seems so polluting and toxic now. It’s exhausting just looking at a newsstand these days. Your eyes cross. You can’t even focus. People aren’t as interested in making a cool movie or constructing interesting characters. Now it’s just about being big and shiny and fabulous.”

After presenting the American Cinematheque award to BFF George Clooney last year, it was Julia Roberts turn to receive the very same honour.
The 39-year-old actress said she came along at the right time to turn into an A-list actress.
“I think I came along at a kinder time in the business, It wasn’t about fashion, and there weren’t so many media outlets, it was just kind of different. You could really cultivate your work a little more gently.”
On hand were Tom Hanks and Sally Field.
