The long-suffering wife of the Oscar-winning actor submitted papers on August 12.
Together since 1989 and married in 1996, the couple have had a roller-coaster relationship, filing papers of legal separation twice – only to patch things up again as recently as May.
Sean Penn has dropped out of the Three Stooges. He was to star as Larry in the flick which co-stars Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro.
Word is that he is taking a break to focus on family.
