Looking disheveled and distressed, Britney Spears arrived early morning at a Beverly Hills Mercedes dealership with her mother, Lynne Spears and Sam Lutfi in tow.

Britney and Lynne have allegedly been estranged since the early holidays, but are, maybe, trying to put their differences aside in light of the popwreck’s mounting personal problems. After spending twenty minutes in the parking lot, seemingly having a heated conversation, Britney emerged from her Cadillac Escalade in a see through lace top hastily covered by an inside out and backwards sweater.

Not in the mood for smiles, she walked on, coffee cup and Kabbalah text in hand to perhaps wake up and find spiritual guidance.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports Sam (not the evil Adnan Ghalib) is interfering with the family’s attempt at staging an intervention for Brit’s bipolar disorder.

Family sources say they are furious at Lutfi, claiming he pushed Brit into going to B.H. Mercedes today to buy a new car — in the middle of the effort to save her.

One source says the family believes Lutfi has been a “counterproductive, disquieting force” who has done nothing but harm.

And so the saga continues….

UPDATE: Sam ain’t taking this recent character assassination sitting down. Moments after the story hit, he called resident gossip purveyor Harvey Levin to give him a piece of his mind.

Lutfi said there was no intervention last night, but then said
Britney’s family “barged in.” For the record, the family is staging an intervention and Lutfi has been kept in the dark.

Lutfi said of the family, “They have an agenda. Their agenda is jealously because they don’t fit in. I do. They see her three times a year.”

Britney was by the phone during Lutfi’s conversation with Levin. Lutfi claimed he did not force Britney to buy a car, asking Brit, “Did I force you to buy a car.” In a heavy southern accent she responded, “No.” He continued, “Do I ever bug you.” She replied, “We argue.”

Lutfi said Britney’s mom is fine with him — it’s her dad who’s a problem. Family sources tell TMZ that’s baloney — both Lynne and Jamie “are on the same page,” feeling like Sam is a “megalomaniac” who is motivated by “evil.”

It’s Britney Spears’ birthday today, y’all, and America’s favourite popwreck has yet to reveal her plans for the big day.

But what do you get for the girl who has everything? In Britney’s case, perhaps a little privacy would be just what she’s looking for, right?

Nah!!! Last night the birthday girl was joined by her parasitic pals Sam Lufti and Alli Sims at the Scandinavian Mansion of Style event held in Los Angeles.

Rocking a black micro-dress and a white fur-lined jacket, the increasingly slimmed down star was eager to show off her new physique after working hard all week on her new music video for Piece of Me.

Britney claims that celebrating hasn’t been on the top of her to-do list in recent months. When asked how she celebrated the release of her new album, Blackout, she told Ryan Seacrest that she watched movies and ate fried chicken.

But it’s not like Brit to lay low on her birthday. Every year she goes out and parties, ultimately making headlines with her chaotic behaviour. (Need I remind you of the shameless panty flashing during her 2006 bash at Mr Chow?) But considering the tragic year she’s had, calling it an early night may be in her best interest. Sure, it’s as unlikely as a peace treaty in the Middle East, but still in her best interest.
