Actor extradonaire Ryan Gosling attends the 2008 Santa Barbara Film Festival in sunny California on Tuesday.
The Independent Award, an award SBIFF established to recognize an actor who has made a significant and unique contribution to independent film, was presented to the 27-year-old indie darling in front of a star-studded audience.
This past year, Ryan was honoured with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in the film Half Nelson, his portrayal of a drug-addicted inner city junior high school teacher, as well as Best Actor nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Film Independent Spirit Awards.
A man truly worthy of his merits!

In recent weeks, we have been Canadian actor Ryan Gosling rocking a beard and packing on the pounds for his leading role in Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lovely Bones.’
Then suddenly, just three days before production was set to begin, Ryan backed out of the project citing “creative difference.”
Now comes news that those “difference” were a lot less creative and a lot more personal.
“Peter couldn’t stand Ryan,” said one source. Though Variety reported that Gosling had “stepped down” and was replaced by Mark Wahlberg, our source said, “Ryan cut his own hair, and was fighting with wardrobe. He was so demanding . . . Peter booted him two days before filming started.”
Hmm…fighting? Demanding? Perhaps that why ex-gal pal Rachel McAdams kicked his butt to the curb!
