The real winner of this presidential election could be Katie Couric.

It wasn’t long ago that the TV veteran was the laughingstock of primetime news as she struggled to bring in ratings on CBS Evening News. But now she is being heralded as “one of the five most important people in politics not running for president,” but the New York Observer.

In a story titled A Star is Reborn, the publication says that her political interviews have been so newsmaking that her name is being tossed around as a potential candidate to fill Tim Russert’s shoes as moderator of NBC’s Meet The Press.

KATIE COURIC FINALLY GETS SOME CRED

So, who’s the real winner from last night’s vice presidential debate? Katie Couric. Or so says Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks.

“Her interviews with Sarah Palin were excellent for one simple reason - follow-ups. She did what, unfortunately, so little journalists do these days - she asked pertinent, revealing (yet polite) follow-up questions. This allowed us to see behind the veneer of Sarah Palin and realize it was backed up by absolutely nothing. Real journalism led to real facts we would not have otherwise seen.

Imagine if Couric had not done those interviews - or had not asked those tough follow-up questions - and all we had seen were Gwen Ifill’s standard queries from Thursday night, we might never have known how very little Sarah Palin really knows. And that’s relevant. It’s important for the voters to understand how much or how little these candidates actually know. They are applying for the most important job in the world.”

And Speaking of Gwen Ifill, rumour has it Queen Latifah will play the moderator in Saturday Night Live’s version of last night’s debate.

Katie Couric has managed to trap Sarah Palin in yet another episode of verbal diarrhea.

This time the CBS news anchor called out the Republican VP nominee for making a joke about Joe Biden’s age when she has a 72-years old running mate.

Her explanation? Americans need change over experience.

Wait a minute — isn’t that Barack Obama’s motto?

“I find myself in the last bastion of male dominance, and realizing what Hillary Clinton might have realized not long ago: that sexism in the American society is more common than racism, and certainly more acceptable or forgivable. In any case, I think my post and Hillary’s race are important steps in the right direction.”

CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric claims sexism is more common than racism in an interview in Tel Aviv as she covers Barack Obama.

Katie Couric has posted a video from an event earlier this week in which she took the stage with Bette Midler for a sing-along of Downtown and more - all in the name of fundraising.

The primetime newswoman explains in the video that they rehearsed at her apartment the night before “with my piano.” She goes on to say: “… please go gentle on my singing…it’s for a good cause.”

Fast forward to 2:00 to experience the true horrificness.

If you loved the last video of Katie Couric being candid while the cameras rolled, here’s another one.

She mentions Dan Rather, Steven Cojocaru and Uggs this time, as she fiddles with her coat for 6+ minutes.

Check out some unaired video of perky morning gal Katie Couric during her first time election night coverage.

While we understand that this is behind-the-scenes footage, it’s as if she dropped off a turnip truck into the news studio.

How do I look? What’s the election about? Where are we? Do I have snot on my nose? What are all of those lights and big machines? Cameras? Do I look good? Can you bring me a prettier microphone? Can you pin it on me? Can you stand behind me and read this while I move my lips? How do I look? Am I pretty? Prettier than Cindy McCain?

In a newly surfaced YouToube clip, Katie Couric shows off her sharp sense of humour while biting back at her number one critic, Dan Rather.

The CBS Anchor was preparing for an outdoor segment during her newscast last week in Nashville when she clowned to her colleagues about a 20-minute YouTube video of Rather obsessed with fixing his overcoat during a similar shoot in Seattle.

This tart is ready to go,” declares Katie anchor in a hilarious sendoff to her straight-arrow and often critical predecessor.

Katie was preparing for an outdoor segment during her newscast last week in Nashville when she clowned to her colleagues about a 20-minute YouTube video of Rather obsessed with fixing his overcoat during a similar shoot in Seattle.

As you may recall, earlier this year Dan took a verbal slap at his former bosses, saying they had “tarted up” the “Evening News” since he left and Katie took his seat.

In the new clip, Couric slaps back.

“I’m going to get in trouble,” she says. “Too bad. Come on, it would have been funny. Jeez, don’t you think he deserves a little payback?”

KATIE COURIC: EXPOSED?

The unauthorized biography ‘Katie: The Real Story’ claims, among many other things, that Katie Couric (during her bachelorette days) crippled the marriage of a CNN exec who promised to crown her a star, then as ‘Today’ cohost deliberately ate into Matt Lauer’s air time and “did everything in her power” to squash the ascension of rising star Ann Curry.

Author Edward Klein also claims that Katie’s marriage to Jay Monahan was merely for show by the time he succumbed to cancer, and that only “her fear of negative publicity” kept them husband and wife.

Asked for comment by the New York Daily News, Couric’s spokesperson says, “The baseless gossip… doesn’t merit a response.”

And so America’s love affair with hating Katie Couric continues….

Ratings repellent Katie Couric was out bowling for a good cause in the Big Apple last night — the ‘CBS News’ anchor attended the ‘Strike Out Colon Cancer’ event at 300 New York for the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.

Also in attendance? Katie’s rumoured boyfriend, jazz musician and one-time ‘Rosie’ sidekick/cutie patootie, Chris Botti. The happy twosome arrived and left together but made sure not to be photographed that way.
