The crazies were out in full force last night for the 39th annual Church of Scientology anniversary gala in Hollywood.

Celebrity thetans Kelly Preston and John Travolta were joined by fellow brainwashed babes Erika Christensen and Leah Remini as they celebrated one of Hollywood’s most longstanding cults.

While the party was inside The Manor Hotel (an extension of the Celebrity Centre), crowds gathered outside of the star-studded celebration to denounce Scientology.

Carrying signs that read “Scientology Suppresses Free Speech” and “Ask Us About the Criminal Cult”, the protesters and former members grew by the hour as dignitaries, politicians, and celebrities sneaked in through the side door.

Noticeably missing from the night’s festivities? Scientology’s reigning royal couple, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Latest stars to show up in a Scientology video? Anne Archer, Kirstie Alley and John Travolta, who surface in an old (1996) recruiting video posted by The Sun.

CLICK HERE to check out the distrubing video!

The narrator starts, “If you leave this room after seeing this film, and walk out and never mention Scientology again, you are perfectly free to do so. It would be stupid, but you can do it. You can also dive off a bridge or blow your brains out - that is your choice.” Lovely!

Kirstie, who is identified not by name but as “Actress,” says: “To tell you the honest to God truth, without Scientology I would be dead. So, I can personally highly recommend it.”

John, labeled as “Actor,” says: “Well basically, there’s no part of my life that Scientology hasn’t helped.”

Creeeeeeeeeeepy!

Joined by costars Amanda Bynes, John Travolta and Nikki Blonsky, Hairpsray cuties Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens cause a frenzy of flashbulbs as they storm the red carpet at the 19th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday.

About 150 or so film fans braved the chilly, rainy weather to cheer their favourite stars on as they exited stretch limos for the walk down the red carpet.

Needless to say, it was young Zac who drew the grandest fanfare. One fan told The Desert Sun that she “might cry” should she see the 20-year-old heartthrob.

Over 700 Hollywood types gathered this morning at The Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate The Hollywood Reporter’s Power 100 Women in Entertainment.

Topping the coveted list: Disney exec Anne Sweeney.

Hairspray stars John Travolta and Queen Latifah were on hand to speak in front of the star-studded audience. Meanwhile, Oscar-winner Jodie Foster, who dazzled in Oscar de la Renta, received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, presented to a woman who has been a pioneer or leader in her field in the entertainment industry.

Needless to say, this was also the gayest event in Hollywood since the last Heatherette fashion show.

STAGE PARENT X 2

Barely 7-years-old and parents John Travolta and Kelly Preston have already begun pimping out their daughter Ella Bleu.

Production has just kicked off on her very first major motion picture, ‘Old Dogs’, which not coincidentally stars her Scientology-loving parents.

The seemingly happy family was snapped hand-in-hand-in-hand on the New York City set of the Walt Becker-directed comedy during a break from filming.

Looks cute now, but something tells me that in about ten years or so, we may very well find young Ella Blue passed out in the passenger’s seat of her lesbian lover’s car after a wild night of partying.

Tom Cruise and Co. were a no show, but there was still plenty of star power at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre’s 38th Anniversary Gala in Hollywood last night.

John Travolta and his life-long beard, Kelly Preston, were, as they joined fellow nut Kirstie Alley at the star-studded bash.

Hollywood vampress Priscilla Presley showed up with her new flame Nigel Lithgoe.

Washed up actress and new parent Jenna Elfman was also on hand.

Others fetting Hollywood’s favouite cult included Giovanni Ribisi, Marisol Nichols, Michael Pena, Erika Christensen and Nancy Cartwright, a.k.a. the voice of none other than Bart Simpson.

Singer-turned-plastic surgery enthusiast Taylor Dane headlined the entertainment.

There were also a lot of local members, government officials and the like, but ,you know, it was all about the famous folks.

‘CSI: Miami’ actress Sofia Milos. Evidently, Scientology does not condemn plastic surgery.

‘HAIRSPRAY’ INVADES HOLLYWOOD

The only reason (for me, anyway) to grin and bear the painful experience that is the musical ‘Hairspray’ is the return of big screen goddess Michelle Pfeiffer.

The 49-year-old actress was the personification of ageless at last night’s star-studded premiere in a simple Jenni Kayne strapless.

Expect to see more Michelle on the carpet soon. Her upcoming movie, a fantasy flick called ‘Stardust’, opens next month.

As for Michelle’s ‘Hairspray’ costar John Travolta….well…let’s just say no amount of hairspray (or makeup for that matter) could cover his awful lace front wig.

CRAZY TALKIN’ CRAZY

Does John Travolta blame psychiatric drugs for the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech and Columbine?

“I still think that if you analyze most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is [psychotropic] drugs at the bottom of it,” he tells this month’s W magazine.

(In other words, more guns and less mental help!)

But don’t look for the ‘Hairspray’ star to be jumping on couches over the issue or calling Matt Lauer “glib” as his fellow Scientologist, Tom Cruise, did last year: “I don’t disagree with anything Tom says. How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn’t matter.”

JOHN TRAVOLTA NOT GAY ENOUGH

Gay leaders are boycotting the film ‘Hairspray’ because John Travolta’s role in the film is typically played by a drag queen, and Scientology allegedly rejects gay people as members and operates therapy clinics to “cure” homosexuality.

From Kevin Naff, managing editor of the gay-oriented Washington Blade: “Travolta, a prominent Scientologist, has no business reprising an iconic gay role, given his [religion’s] stance on gay issues. It’s well known that Scientology rejects gays and lesbians as members and even operates reparative therapy clinics to ‘cure’ homosexuality.”

A gay publication bashing John Travolta? Isn’t that like the gay equivalent of black-on-black violence?

He may be promoting his current flick ‘Hairspray’, but by the look of his ever-expanding waistline, ‘Grease’ is the only thing that’s on John Travolta’s mind these days.

During a family vacay in Hawaii, the one-time heartthrob was spotted getting his trans fats on via a hefty dosing of french fries, mayonnaise and tortilla chips.

Mmm mmm mmm! The breakfast of true champions!
