John McCain made his first post-election appearance on a taping of The Tonight Show today.

When asked about making another run in 2012, the 72-year-old senator said this was his last try for the White House. “I don’t think so, my friend,” he told Leno. “It’s time for another generation of leaders.”

The defeated presidential candidate told host Jay Leno that VP candidate Sarah Palin was not to blame for their loss, and that she will “play a prominent role” in future GOP politics. You heard that right — prominent!

He also joked that losing the election to Barack Obama isn’t keeping him up at night — well, not really. “I’ve been sleeping like a baby,” he said. “Sleep two hours, wake up and cry. Sleep two hours, wake up and cry.”

“The American people have spoken and they have spoken clearly,” Republican presidential nominee John McCain just told supporters in Phoenix, where he is conceding the 2008 presidential election to Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

He went on to note the historic nature of the election of the nation’s first African-American president, saying: “Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth.”

McCain also asked his supporters to help “get our country moving again.” And he says of his defeat, that “the failure is mine, not yours.”

He finished with a statement that dripped with dignity and patriotism. “Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much,” he said. “And tonight I remain her servant. That is blessing enough for anyone.”

Clay head molds of U.S. presidential candidates Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama were presented at Madame Tussauds Studios in London today.

A studio team has been working on wax figures of both candidates, to be certain that the new U.S. President is ready to take up office at Madame Tussauds London come inauguration day in January.

Now the question is, which one to choose….?

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

John McCain is scheduled to appear on David Letterman tonight, but it looks like he’s having some trouble getting there.

Only moments ago, the Republican presidential candidate was on the tarmac in Philadelphia enjoying a two-hour delay on planes flying to Newark.

As the campaign plane was turned around, a small hired helicopter swept in and whisked him, his wife, Cindy, two of their aides, and two Secret Service Agents, to their Late Show appointment.

The show begins taping in less than 30 mintes in Manhattan.

JOHN MCCAIN IS SORRY

John McCain wants to make ammends with David Letterman.

“I hope that Dave forgives me. I’ve always enjoyed going on his show over many years and I look forward to coming back. He’s one of the greats,” McCain tells Entertainment Tonight in a two-part interview starting tonight. McCain also said, “I’m asking my son Jimmy who’s a Marine to send me his flack jacket and his helmet! I’ll try to go back on.”

When asked about his running mate’s debate performance, he said he was “pleasantly surprised because Sarah Palin did such a great job.” And he said media criticism seemed to motivate her. “I think it fired her up a little bit for the debate. This is a tough environment but, most importantly it didn’t faze Sarah Palin. She knows who she is.”

Added Cindy McCain, “I think criticism has been more just amongst the media and not so much with the American people at all.”

As for his thoughts on Tina Fey’s SNL impersonation of Palin? “That’s part of the routine that you go through and Tina Fey… nobody enjoys it more than Sarah Palin. Comedy is fine and I think we ought to do a lot of it. I wish there wasn’t quite so much of the personal stuff that goes on, but we’re big people, we know how to handle it.”

SARAH PALIN: GOVERNOR OF GAFFES

John McCain’s increasingly self-imploding presidential campaign continues….

The latest? He and his disasterous VP selection Sarah Palin gave their first joint interview to Katie Couric of CBS News today. Big mistake.

When asked to respond to allegations that through out the campaign she has explicitly contradicted McCain on the issue of cross-border attacks (and in fact sided with Barack Obama), Palin went into one of her trademark word jumbles before McCain swept in to save the day.

Unfortunately, his assessment that the gaffe was a result of “gotcha” journalism was utterly incorrect. As rightly pointed out by Miss Couric.

John McCain gets grilled about his choice of Sarah Palin for VP

John McCain hit up The View today, and they discussed various topics, ranging from Sarah Palin to their houses to the separation of church and state.

First, resident Republican Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked McCain if he planned to try to get Roe V. Wade overturned.

After some political word-peddling, he answered: “I believe Roe v. Wade was a very bad decision.” If president, he would appoint Supreme Court justices who “strictly interpret” and “enforce” the Constitution. (In other words, kiss your ovaries goodbye, ladies!)

Next, Whoopi Goldberg chimed in saying, “Do I have to be worried about becoming a slave again?” (reminding that the Constitution made slaves three-fifths a person)… “because certain things happened in the Constitution that had to change.”

After a few laughs, McCain went on to clarify his position, saying, “I believe life begins at conception, but I respect the views of those who don’t.”

For some comic relief, he vowed to appoint Democrats and independents to his administration, saying I’ll appoint Joy (Behar) to be the director of communications.”

Finally — someone with experience!

MEET THE PARENTS

Look at who we spied standing in line shaking hands with John McCain as he stepped off his plane at the airport in Minneapolis a short time ago. It’s babydaddy of the hour, Levi Johnston!!!

Joined by Bristol Palin, his knocked up gal pal (or should we say fianceƩ, since parents say the two plan to wed), the 17-year-old boy appeared cheery and not remotely frightened as he chatted with the Republican presidential candidate.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her entire family met McCain upon his arrival at the airport.

That must have been a cozy little encounter to say the least….

John McCain has slammed Madonna for comparing him to Adolf Hitler and Robert Mugabe on her latest world tour.

In a just-released statement by campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds, the presidential hopeful says: “The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time. It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits.”

Speaking of smear tactics, have you check out McCain’s latest anti-Obama ad?

In a new interview with Politico, John McCain said “that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.”

“I think — I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain said. “It’s condominiums where — I’ll have them get to you.”

According to the Progressive Accountability group, the number is an even 10 homes, ranches, condos, and lofts.

The combined cost of McCain’s humble abodes? An estimated $13 823 269.

Feel free to take a tour (courtesy of Google Earth ) of the many McCain residences. Which one is your fave? Or are you too busy trying to get your home out of foreclosure?
