A con man pretending to be Heath Ledger’s grieving father has been duping stars, including manipulating Tom Cruise into consoling him over the phone - and nearly convincing John Travolta to buy him a plane ticket to the United States.

New York police are looking for the person.

Rosie O’Donnell has finally thrown in her two cents on the Heath Ledger tragedy via her blog.

The opinionated media personality posted a video yesterday, called Rosie’s Canvas. The clip shows her manipulating a photo of Heath from the cover of the New York Post as Broadway’s Spring Awakening sings The Song of Purple Summer.

After covering the deceased actor’s face in yellow mustard (ok, it’s paint), she quickly pulls the cover away to reveal only his face.

Deep.

The news of the day may be Heath Ledger’s funeral, but already, some stars are reacting to the non-stop media coverage of the very reclusive actor.

Star Jones has written an editorial bashing the endless, salacious stories about the Heath’s demise, saying it made her “sick.”

Meanwhile, CNN’s Anderson Cooper announced on his blog that until there was actual news to report, he’d be staying away from the Ledger story. “I am not a fan of speculation, so unless there is something really new to discuss we probably won’t be covering it anymore anytime soon,” wrote Cooper.

And finally, responding to the Westboro Baptist Church’s plan to picket any Ledger funeral or memorial service to be held in the States, the Anti-Defamation League has just issued a statement saying the actor’s funeral “should be no place for haters.”

Kudos to all who stand up for something!

Heath Ledger’s family expressed their grief in the death notices section of the West Australian newspaper on Friday.

The actor’s parents, sisters and stepsisters wrote of the great loss they felt at his sudden death.”There will never, ever be another ‘Heath’ and I think that in itself is the greatest tragedy,” wrote older sister Kate.

I’M SORRY FOR BEING SUCH A FOOL

On Fox News’ The Big Story today, John Gibson said “he’s sorry” for the controversial comments he made yesterday about the late Heath Ledger.

Talking about the topic de jour, the sleazebag journalist dismissed the deceased actor as a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem,” and annoyingly mocked the “I wish I knew how to quit you” line from Brokeback Mountain, jabbing that Heath had found the definitive way to “quit you.” To ensure he captures this year’s Douchebag of the Year Award, Gibson also repeatedly suggested that Heath had killed himself in response to other grim national headlines.

Tonight, however, a slightly more contrite Gibson concluded his segment by saying, “To anyone offended by my comments [yesterday], I’m sorry.” To further clarify, he added that he was also sorry that Ledger had died.

Meanwhile, in non-senile news, production on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus — which Heath had been in the midst of filming — has shut down.

And finally, funeral arrangements have been made for the 28-year-old gone-too-sooon actor and relatives are expected to arrive in New York City tomorrow. Other than that, however, “The family doesn’t want us to give out any information.”

THE MOURNING OF HEATH BEGINS

Heath Ledger news today is turning to the star’s funeral.

The 28-year-old actor’s body has been moved to a New York funeral home; the Australian consulate in New York is also helping the family with arrangements.

Meanwhile, a memorial service might be held at the school Heath attended in Perth, Australia.

But not everyone is greiving — a radical Baptist church plans to protest any service held in the U.S. because Heath portrayed a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain.

As for the mysterious whereabouts of his once costar Jake Gyllenhaal? He’s in New Mexico right now filming the new movie Brothers. He’s reportedly very upset and does not want to talk to the media — so the set has been closed to non-crew members and extra security has been hired. Very understandable.

And finally, model Sophie Ward sister of Gemma (Heath’s recent girlfriend), told Australian press today that Heath was “edgy” but “clean” over the Christmas holidays. “I don’t believe he took his own life deliberately.”

A PRESCRIPTION FOR DEATH?

Neighbours and fans have erected a makeshift memorial outside the apartment building in which Heath Ledger was found dead on Tuesday afternoon. Among about a dozen bouquets of flowers, handwritten notes and flickering candles stood a hand-drawn portrait of the actor, a cigarette jutting from his lips, reminiscent of James Dean.

Meanwhile, new reports reveal that the $20 that police found in Heath’s apartment did not contain any drug residue. Furthermore, an insider tells TMZ that the actor’s apartment had no illegal drugs inside. No cocaine. No heroin. Nothing.

Instead it appears it was precription pills that may have played a role in his untimely death. Pill bottles containing the anti-anxiety medications Ativan, Valium, Xanax and the sleeping meds Lunesta and Restoril were found in the apartment.

Shockingly, all were prescribed to Heath.

Looks like speculation is turning into gospel.

New reports confirm that the medications found at Heath Ledger’s apartment included the anti-anxiety drugs Xanax and Valium.

What’s more? In addition to serveral other prescribed meds, cops also found the sleeping aid Ambien.

All this, of course, is in addition to reports of a rolled-up $20 bill that reportedly had drug residue all over it and is currently being “looked into” by police.

Stay tuned for more details as they develop.

As you may recall, there were sleeping pills near the actor, but the cause of his death remains under investigation.
