Much like its fashion, the winners at Sunday night’s 80th Annual Academy Awards were no surprise. In fact, the only unexpected aspect of the show last night was that the normally funny Jon Stewart was anything but.
Here is the rundown of the important winners from the star-studded show.

Our thoughts? Any surprises? Was Amy Ryan from Gone, Baby, Gone robbed? And why does America hate Atonement so much? Discuss.

Much props to the fiercely talented Daniel Day-Lewis for taking home the trophy for Best Actor at Sunday night’s 80th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.
While he may have taken home the prize for his acting chops, the same could not be said about his red carpet peformance.
And while the There Will Be Blood actor’s brown shoes and gold hoop earrings were truly unsightly, they didn’t compare to his wife Rebecca Miller’s opera singer dress - cobbled together with blood-red bows and shiny black baubles.
Luckily for these two, their bread and butter comes from their well-honed crafts and not the outfits they wear.

Daniel-Day Lewis interrupted his own interview with
Oprah today to comment on
Heath Ledger’s death.
“It seems somehow strange to be talking about anything else,” he said, although she had asked him about his Oscar-nominated performance in There Will Be Blood. “Not that there’s anything to say, really, except to express one’s regret and say from the bottom of one’s heart to his family and friends, ‘I’m sorry for their trouble.’”
Choking up, the intense Day-Lewis said he didn’t know Ledger and hadn’t worked with him. “I have a strong impression I would have liked him very much if I had. … I looked forward very much to his work in the future.”

Golden Globe winner Daniel Day-Lewis tells February’s Men’s Vogue, on stands this week, “My gratitude for what I do is very keenly and privately felt and acknowledged.”
The There Will Be Blood star adds that he is aware that because he can afford to pick and choose roles carefully he is perceived as being somewhat of a hermit and a reluctant performer, but “I don’t see it like that, not at all.”
“I’m completely aware, and have always been aware, of the privilege of being able to work when I want to work, and to not work when I don’t want to.”
