IT’S ALL LOVE FOR THE GALS OF ‘THE VIEW’

Ecstatic by all the attention The View got last week when Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Whoopi Goldberg got into a heated debate about the n-word, Barbara Walters said on today’s show: “You were both right.” But what wasn’t right, she said, was anyone who called it a “catfight.” The “catfight business bothered me,” said Miss Walters.

Elisabeth compared the showdown to family squabbling, saying the “You have unconditional love and respect for your family members. We’re going to still love each other.”

Whoopi wasn’t so PC. “Please don’t mischaracterize me,” she said. “If I was going to attack somebody, you’d know it. … We’re not beating up on each other. We actually respect and like each other.” She also challenged “other talking heads” on shows that were critical of The View to “look at your own house and see how dirty it is.”

Who needs Sex and the City when you’ve got the ladies of The View?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters and Sherri Shepherd all joined forces on Wednesday night when they attended an Evening with the Hosts of The View at The Paley Center for Media in New York City.

All the gals looked lovely in their best ladies-who-brunch attire…except for Whoopi, of course. She showed up in finest jeans and sneakers combo. Gotta love it!

During today’s Hot Topics segment on The View, Barbara Walters said, out of the blue, that she received a call from Britney Spears’ pal Sam Lutfi.

According to Lutfi, Britney is seeing a “pyschiatrist,” said Babs, for “issues which are treatable.”

She also said Sam told her Britney has been back in touch with her mom.

Does that explain Lynne’s sudden and unexpected arrival at LAX last night?

Stay tuned!

Celebrity loudmouth Rosie O’Donnell dissed Barbara Walters - again!! - on stage Wednesday night doing stand-up.

Rosie started off by saying, “When I was fired by Barbara Walters” - the first time she didn’t stick to “The View’s” spin that her departure from the show was by mutual agreement.

Rosie claimed onstage that Walters and other “View” couchmates wear earpieces through which producers tell them what to say, which she refused to do.

Rosie also confided that she and the veteran newswoman were actually so close early on in her tenure as moderator that Walters recommended Rosie use Astroglide, which, she added, took her by surprise.

“But she paved the way for women,” Rosie allowed. “She interviewed Presidents … ”

“Like Abraham Lincoln,” snapped Barr.

Uh-oh….looks like Rosie has been experiencing an extreme case of verbal diarrhea ever since she got the boot.

Sour grapes for one?

Now quick — somebody get her some Pepto before she does anymore damage!

Looks like there’s one person who isn’t looking forward to the release of Rosie O’Donnell’s new book, ‘Celebrity Detox.’

Chatting with TV’s ‘Extra‘, former boss and career re-ignitor Barbara Walters said: “Rosie sent me the book with a note telling me how much she loved me. I have read the book and I would like to concentrate on the love that she sent.”

With criticisms like that, who needs compliments?

‘THE VIEW’ MAY JUST GET A WHOLE LOT GAYER

The latest installemtn in the “Who will replace Rosie?” soap opera is that comedian Mario Cantone, a frequent guest on ‘The View’ (and well-known to ‘Sex and the City’ fans as Charlotte’s bitchy pal), might be tapped join the heretofore all-female panel.

Responding to the People tale, Advocate editor Sean Kennedy tells the New York Post, “It makes sense to have a gay guy on the show after all these years.”

And again, we proactively mourn the loss of all that Barbara Walters-instigated heterosexual sex talk.

THIS IS GONNA GET UGLY

Uh-oh — looks like the lovefest between Barbara Walters and Rosie O’Donnell is officially over.

The L.A. Times reports Barbara Walters told KISS-FM’s Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, “There are some things that we were able to discuss that we weren’t able to discuss with Rosie, like heterosexual sex. Because, you know, Rosie’s lifestyle is different, being an open lesbian.”

When asked about Babs’ comment on her personal blog, Rosie simply responded: “She is almost 80.”

Then over the weekend, Rosie blasted at a True Colors concert: “I got to tell you, I’ve been hanging around with those heteros for a full year and it’s not fun. Turn around one minute and they’ll stab you in the back with a high heel. They will.”

Is it safe to say the honeymoon is over?

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s dose of post-View mud-slinging.

A BIASED VIEW

For the second consecutive day, Paris Hilton dominated the Hot Topics segment on ‘The View’ today.

Christian crusader Elisabeth Hasselbeck joked, “It’s funny how jailbirds and porn stars always say, ‘Oh God,’” before defending Hilton’s recent bible-reading binge. Meanwhile, funnygal Joy Behar wisecracked about Hilton’s likening prison to being in a cage: “Duh, you are in a cage.” Touchee.

And for curiosity’s sake, co-host Barbara Walters, who appears to have become the Hilton mouthpiece while Paris is in the slammer, asked the visiting wife of the United Nations secretary general if her compatriots knew of Hilton’s situation. Sadly, the answer was affirmative.

Later, the gals couldn’t resist asking guest Judge Judy for her take on Paris’ new ‘tude. “Instead of bringing this spiritual books, she would have been smart to bring in a newspaper.”

Call it a case of extreme irony that Judge Judy was there to promote a book called ‘Beauty Fades, Dumb is Forever.’

You’ve read all about it, now it’s time to watch Barbara Walters dish about her phone coversation with Paris Hilton over the weekend.

Here are a few highlights (or lowlights depending on your position):

- Paris will get out in 14 days on June 25 (she’s already served 9)

- Paris has not been on antidepressants

- Paris believes “God has given me this new chance”

- Paris would like to help in the field of breast cancer or MS

- Paris wants toy companies to build a Paris Hilton Playhouse for sick children

- Paris believes “God has released her”

- Paris is reading newspapers, the LA Times, the Wallsteet Journal, and books like ‘The Secret,’ ‘Power of Now’ and The Bible

- Paris has received hundreds of fan letters — some have made her cry

- Paris is rocking a brown and orange jumpsuit and going sans makeup since she’s “not that superficial girl. I haven’t looked in the mirror since I got here.”
