MTV bid farewell to Total Request Live last night with a star-studded prime-time goodbye in and around its Times Square studios.

For almost three hours, music A-listers — from Beyonce to Taylor Swift, 50 Cent to Justin Timberlake (who drew rabid squeels when he stepped to the window) - stopped by to “pay their respects” at the wake for the weekday countdown show that helped launch their careers.

Once upon a time, TRL was the be all and end all when it came to what was cool in Teenland, USA. Fast forward to present day and MTV is forced to pull the plug on the show following years of declining ratings.

Highlights from the star-studded show included a phone chat between Eminem and former TRL host Carson Daly. Said the rapper: “I feel like they’re kinda tearin’ down my home.”

Other celeb attendees who turned out to say goodbye included Cassie, P.Diddy, Jonathan Davis, Esmee Denters, Hilary Duff, Kid Rock, Joel Madden, Fall Out Boy, Snoop Dogg and Teyana Taylor.

BETTE IS SO HOOD

50 Cent and Bette Midler were side by side today to dedicate a garden Fiddy funded in his old Jamaica neighbourhood of the Queens borough of New York City.

Bette, who described the rapper otherwise known as Curtis Jackson as a “giant” in entertainment, explained how she came to collaborate with 50. “We own 60 of these community gardens,” she said. “We took ownership of this one. This one was a very successful one, but they wanted little renovations here and there. We looked all over town for a group that was interested in these sort of things. We found G-Unity, which is Curtis’ foundation. They were interested. This garden is mainly for kids, and they do a lot of things with kids.”

The garden features lots of flowers, a vegetable garden, a community area where people can have barbecues and movies will be shown — and also a rainwater-collection system.

Fiddy reportedly ponied up more than $200 000 to create the utopian getaway.

50 Cent has knocked Jay-Z off the top of Forbes‘ Hip-Hop Cash King list, after raking in a mind-numbing $150 million over the past 12 months — almost twice what previous No. 1 spot-holder Jay-Z made.

The majority of Fiddy’s cash came in one deal alone — when his stake in VitaminWater’s parent, Glacéau, was bought by Coca-Cola as part of a $4.1 billion deal.

The rap mogul’s portfolio also includes the G-Unit clothing line and record label, plus films, videogames and albums.

The rest include No. 3 Diddy, who raked in a respectable $35 million. Kanye West ranks No. 4, banking $30 million and producer extradonaire Timbaland rounding off the top five with $22 million.

They say big girls don’t cry, but what about big girls with even bigger feet?

At last night’s Matt Leinart-hosted pre-Super Bowl party for 944 magazine, 50 Cent reportedly offered props to Paris Hilton, who then started singing in the front row. That prompted the often shot rapper to blast: “Get the f**k off the stage!!!!”, which was then proceeded by a tear-filled pity party for one as Paris pleaded with the party’s production staff to let her dance.

As her handlers quickly went into action to protect their superstar client from being snapped by photogs in mid-breakdown, La Hilton gasped: “But it’s my party!!!”

And as the song goes, she cried cuz she wanted to, she cried cuz she wanted to.

Looks like 50 Cent has another face-to-face showdown on his hands.

But this time, it’s with defunct boybander Lance Bass!

The two singers launched competing books Tuesday night, and they were more than happy to talk some (tongue-in-cheek) smack about who was going to end up on top.

“He doesn’t stand a chance,” Senor Cent told me at the launch of his coffee-table tome, “50 x 50.”

“With me, everything’s a competition, so I bet you the end of next week, I’ll be moving more copies than him,” Fitty said over dinner at Philippe. “This is the same competition - this is Kanye West and 50 Cent all over again!”

Twenty minutes later, at Azza, Bass was happy to hit back.

“50’s going down, that’s all I have to say,” he said while promoting his memoir, “Out of Sync.”

“50, I don’t want to playa-hate, but there’s a lot that my book has” that his doesn’t.

Oh, no he didn’t!!!!

Team 50 or Team Bass?

Britney Spears and her train wreck of a performance this past weekend may be garnering all of the media’s attention, but it appears a hot new couple may have emerged.

Paris Hilton caused a near paparazzi OD when she was snapped nuzzling up to 50 Cent, the baddest name in hip hop. But was there more to their display of public affection than meets the lense?

According to an unnamed source: Paris “couldn’t keep her hands of him. He nuzzled up to her and they cuddled.” And Paris apparently has said of 50 in the past: “He’s so cool. He’s really funny and he’s so cute too, and I love his music. I think he would be the best boyfriend a girl could wish for!”

Wow, there really is no limit to the depths of depravity that Fiddy will go to in order to promote his new album.

Tantrum-throwing rapper Kanye West has reportedly been canceling performances aimed to help increase sales of his new album.

According to the New York Post, West bailed on a ‘Today’ show concert last week and opted out of doing ‘TRL’ and ‘The Late Show’ this week.

We also heard he was thinking of backing out of “Ellen,” and might not do “Saturday Night Live” at the end of October. “Kanye knows he is winning the album battle with 50 Cent and is so high on his horse that he can’t even bother promot ing his album,” sniffed one spy.

But worry not, Kanye fans. E! reports that the egomaniacal entertainer is prepping a number with Rainn Wilson of ‘The Office’ fame for the Emmys on Sunday night.

As for his marketing battle against 50 Cent? Early signs say Kanye is outselling Fiddy in their battle of the new albums.

I guess retirement is going to be coming a whole lot sooner than expected for one of these two boastful rappers.

However, E! reports that he may be prepping a number with none other than Rainn Wilson for the Emmys on Sunday night.

Kanye West and 50 Cent have taken their publicity war to the pages of Rolling Stone.

With both having albums dropping on September 11, these two marketing geniuses were more than happy to pose and heat up the the greatest debate of our time: Who will be the next “king of hip hop”?

According to the editor’s note, Kanye wants everyone to know that this photo is legit. “I feel like it should say, This is not photoshopped,” he says. “This is real. It’s a moment.”

As for 50? “From a hip-hop perspective, it’s the biggest event possible.”

Team Kanye or Team 50?

“MTV can suck my dick. Nah, like I could say whatever I want. If I want to be an asshole, idiot, I could just say whatever I want. You know what I mean, like, I’m just doing this as an example, because I don’t really mean literally MTV could—I could say it, like MTV could say that that’s their favorite artist, because that’s one person’s opinion. Whoever they said, “Can you go out and set up this list for us.” That’s their opinion who they put in this—they put Game number 3 when I wrote the 3 singles that created him. What does that mean? That I’m number 3? Because you’re not in to me this week, I get a chance to sit in the number 8 spot but the project that I created is number 3.”

– Rapper 50 Cent shares with Complex magazine his feelings on being ranked as #8 on MTV’s list of the Top-Ten MCs
