‘Ugly Betty’ star America Ferrera is a vision of Photoshop heaven on the cover of Glamour magazine’s new issue, on stands September 11. Inside, the Emmy-nominated actress talks about a number of topics, including how Hollywood seems to be moving away from what was once considered ideal when it comes to leading ladies.
“I’ve gotten scripts for romantic comedies sent to me that were originally conceived for a blond-haired, blue-eyed actress,” America tells Glamour. “At the end of the day, studios are learning there is a market out there that doesn’t necessarily want to go with predictable choices.”

Her head looks like it was glued on someone elses body. THey didn’t even try to make it look resonable. Her arms are way too skinny. The whole thing just looks awful.

THAT LOOKS SO FAKE

I am sooooo sick of seeing that dress. It’s been on every model and celebrity. For god’s sakes, pick another dress!

Its like straight out of ugly Betty when they photoshopped the actress. America already looked great. Now she looks ridiculous with all that PS.

I’m with you guys, that cover is horrible!
September 5th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
she’s treading near racism with those ridiculous comments.

^Are you serious? I was unaware that blonde and blue eyes were considered a race.
September 5th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
This chick is sooo overrated and I don’t care what anyone says, she’s overweight.
September 5th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Amazing what make-up & Photoshop can do.
September 5th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Man, it is so RIDICULOUSLY photoshopped that makes her look so unnaturally fugly!
September 5th, 2007 at 1:46 pm
It looks like a Paula Abdul photo. Big, gigantic head on a short squatty body. And that sure ain’t America’s bod in that pic!

my2cents

Ummmm . . . . . Blond hair + blue eyes = Caucasian. Not sure it could be confused with any other race?
September 5th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
blond hair and blue eyes a race???? just shows how dumb she is! makes her sound like she is jealous of blondes, huh! well she should be, cuz this girl doesn’t have much to offer, besides of course a really lame tv show –and a lot of fat!!!!
September 5th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Hey Kim,
I love you read a comment and somehow inferred that America was the one who mentioned race. No, that would be your cohort up top, “my2cents”, which fittingly is about how much your combined thoughts are worth. Anyone can be blonde; it comes in a bottle. What size are you Kim? America is a size 6. That is not fat or overweight. If you’re comparing her to Skeletor, than yes, she is fat. Obese, even. These girls can’t win. They’re too skinny or their too fat. So, somewhere between a size 2 and 6 is perfect?
September 5th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
See THIS is where you can call photoshop. Most of the time when celebs are photoshopped their faces and bodies look like the celebs do in real life just a little more defined and perfected. In America’s case she looks like a completely different person. Her body looks NOTHING like the one on this cover. Something about America really gets on my nerves and is part of the reason I stopped watching Ugly Betty…I think its great that a bigger/less attractive girl has made her mark on Hollywood but I hope her five minutes are over soon.
And Jen…because of women being increasingly overweight in recent years…society’s perception of what size is normal has changed. Just because maybe size 6 is the most common size does not mean it is normal if that makes sense. Back in the 50s before everyone got stuck into junk food and lazing around on the couch all day, size 6 was definately considered overweight. The only reason you seem to think its ‘normal’ now is because its more common. Size will always be a big debate between women, I’m just pointing out an interesting fact.

Jen, you are an annoying ass person. Good use of the word “cohort” though… I was simply saying why is it racist to say you are sick of seeing blonde and blue eyed people in the popular media? I am not sure it is racist but rather a statement that she would like to see more diversity. I have seen tons of mixed people with blue eyes and light hair though so your fancy math equation (did you learn that at Harvard?) is total bullshit.
September 5th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
When non-Caucasians say they don’t want to see anymore Caucasian people in certain media, they call it wanting “diversity”; just a nice way of being racist themselves…
September 5th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
Stephi- that’s total bullshit, so please don’t claim it as fact. If you look at women in the 50s, they were more curvy and fuller-figured on average… hell– it was even considered the ideal. That’s why women like Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner were so popular and considered ultimate sex symbols… and that was not because they had bodies like Nicole Richie. It’s in this day and age where being twiggy is considered beautiful, and everything else is overweight. If ANYTHING, today’s perception of weight and size is so freakin’ skewed… it’s why we have the highest rate of eating disorders than ever before.
.
Granted, America Ferrera does not have an ideal weight- but who the fuck cares? It’s so healthy and progressive to have someone of her body type in the public eye, and just because she’s that size does not mean she gorges on junk food and is automatically unhealthy (what a bitchy thing to say, might I add. I want to point out that I have always been thin, but eat poorly… as opposed to my best friend, who plays several sports, over-exercises and eats very healthy, yet is considered at a glance to be a “big girl”– Moral of story: don’t judge a book by its cover). It’s true that the U.S. has a startlingly high percentage of clinically overweight and obese people… but please don’t lump average bodies with being overweight. That is a disgusting thing to say, and frankly pisses me off.

nice!

Most of you people are so ridiculous. Oh how dare she pick on skinny blue eyed blondes, right? I’m glad there’s people out there to defend them. Hey you people are the real heroes.

While I know many ethnicities that now sport blue eyes and blond hair (artificially or genetic anomaly) - I feel pretty sure that America is speaking of the caucasian variety. I like that people are fighting the good fight for diversity but I also know that it gets a bit tiring everytime there is an interview with anyone other than a “barbie” there must be a statement about the groundbreaking work they are doing for diversity. Sometimes I ponder if it creates more resistance for minorities that there must always be a declaration of “having made it against all odds set forth by the man” than simply getting in there and doing the work and just becoming part of the everyday landscape. Now I feel like I look at every show for a certain quota. Is NBC making sure there is enough Asians? Nope. Is the UPN making sure there are enough whities? Nope. Etc. Etc. It feels so forced now - and I am of a younger generation that is having the benefit of many more ethnicities on the screen - I am benefited by this - now if it could just happen a bit more steathily . . .I believe it will come about faster.

Back then size 6 was definitely not considered overweight. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Marilyn Monroe was a size 12.

Yeah pple..Stephi is small but with big boobs.Havent u heard already? She insunates that she’s got that sort of perfect body all the time. What a moron!
ANd i think by what America said, she merely means that pple are stepping out of the stereotypes in the movies.
