Sporting a Caesar haircut, toned physique and updated wardrobe, the 45-year-old actor dropped the weight he gained for his portly characters in State of Play in order to play the bandit who steals from the rich and gives to the poor.
Fellow castmembers include Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave and Kevin Durand.
Sienna Miller was initially cast as Maid Marian but rumour has it she held up production and was promptly replaced by the stunning Blanchett.

I’m excited about this one!! It should be good! Russell Crowe might look a bit gross most of the time, but he is an awesome actor and I think he will pull off this role very well. Cate will be ok as Maid Marian I think, but they could have got somebody a bit better and maybe a bit younger? Sienna Miller acting as anything is a joke though! I’d rather Cate than her!
Cate is ALWAYS the better choice…there is no one as good as her right now..

Russell is one of my favorite actors, he’s awesome!
I was really skeptical about Russell, especially after seeing pics of him looking so bloated and unkempt recently, but –dare I say it– he looks sort of hot here. And I’m in love with the idea that hot young things aren’t playing the lead roles, this feels like a more grown up Robin Hood and I look forward to it.
