POPE: CONDOMS “AGGRAVATES” THE HIV PROBLEM

pope-benedict-aids

Making his first trip as pontiff to Africa, Pope Benedict XVI said today (March 17) that handing out condoms is not the solution for combatting AIDS.

AIDS “is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems.” he said.

The Pope’s stance is in line with the Vatican’s age-old pro-abstinence position but this is the first time he has spoken publicly on the matter.

And just for the sake of validity of facts, his comments are untrue according to the World Health Organization. Says a rep: “These incorrect statements about condoms and HIV are dangerous when we are facing a global pandemic, which has already killed more than 20 million people, and currently affects at least 42 million.”

Nun aber ehrlich, Herr Ratzinger, war ihr Alzheimer-Medikament nicht erhältlich?

Really, what a shitty remark. Why do all this old catholics keep talking about things they are not allowed to have experience with? Is it envy?

They need to stop making these old old guys Pope. A 35 yr old might be more in touch with the real world and keep his term as Pope down to 5 years or so.

Catholics believe in abstinence til marriage… which is really the only way to be sure you don’t contract a virus… Seeing as he`s the POPE he put out a CATHOLIC, RELIGIOUS view on the matter.

While his statement may not adhere to the current world, it`s just what he, and millions of others, believes.

The more he speaks the more out of touch he seems. After he approved of the ex-communication of the doctors who performed an abortion on that 9 year old girl who was raped by her step dad (since she was 6), I have no faith in his ability to lead the church in the 21st century. He explained that the rapist step father’s sin was less than the sin of the doctors who performed the abortion and saved the child’s life. The church needs to get its priorities straight or many more will continue to flee the church.

  14. March-17-2009 @ 10:06 pm

why’s everyone so mad? did he throw in a “G D america?”
btw devil, you should know this. many more people have died by non-religious states like russia and germany…maybe 150 million in the 20th century?

Wonder if the Pope had anything else to speak about? Like corruption, justice, equity of the sexes, fairplay in the marketplace, manipulation of multinationals and other topics. Seems to me the Pope’s message was a lot wider and more comprensive than some of these comments seem to indicate. Get over it people, the world drama is not played on the stage of eros, but on the stage of reality. Read all of the news, my friends, not only that with which you already disagree.

Oh adam, you again. How many people died from AIDS since the outbreak? 35 million and with curently up to 40 million people HIV infected, AIDS as a killer is easily surpassing Hitler and Stalin combined. Doh.

Sometimes religion just makes me want to scream. The catholic religion has always been against contraception, so of course they are not going to advocate the use of condoms. I think it’s an ENTIRELY different situation though when you are dealing with the lives of so many people in a third world country. Sure using condoms isn’t going to automatically cure the problem, but it is going to help prevent AIDS from getting any worse. The African people are not going to stop having unprotected sex just because the Pope tells them too either and a lot of the time the girls are raped and that is how they contract AIDS. It’s a different world over there and I don’t think the Pope really has the right to go in there and tell them how to run things. I’m sure he has NO IDEA what it would be like to live in conditions like that.

    miss janet?
wipe the scat off your face and let’s do some math.
150million is more than 35million right?
besides, how many religious nuts have died of the hiv?
    not too many right?
so really, for the fun of it, aids can be considered a secular killer, like nazis and commies.
but let’s leave aids to the gays, drug addicts and degenerate fearmongers.
really, how many lesbians have it?

Adam, old idiot. You talk about killed people in the last century, I talk about Hitler and Stalin. Read the text before you try to do math.
I leave AIDS to the gays, the drug addicts, degenerate fearmongers and the rest of your family.

this must be over your piss-soaked german head.
the devil made a point that religions cause deaths.
i singled out the 20th century to show how many deaths the absence of religion caused.
then you said, “AIDS as a killer is easily surpassing Hitler and Stalin combined.”
    so, as you said,
    “DOH.”

Adam said…”i singled out the 20th century to show how many deaths the absence of religion caused.” Is this because practicaly every war before this was caused by religion, or some form of king guided by religious leaders or views?

Maybe you should take a history 101 or another first level history class that explains how the pope initiated the crusades that killed the entire population of towns and villages(including innocent women and children), or perhaps how the 30 year war in your “non-religious states like russia and germany” killed higher percentages of the population than anything in the 20-21st centurys. Perhaps you are a Bible reader that has read the old testament where the slaughter of Innocent women and children in the name of god took place time after time?

Maybe you can explain to us how the Muslim and Christians have had constant wars throughout the years to gain control of supposedly the most holy site in the world?

It’s ironic that when I think of peace, religion does not come to mind, however when I remember wars, it’s usually caused by some form of religion, or a twisted version of it. I personally would like to thank this imaginary god for having never done nothing in my life to make me believe in him or any of the fake religions associated with him/her/it, or whatever it may be.

Adam, As far as 20th century, you are close to correct as far as actual numbers, but in reality, as a percentage of the population, you are way off. Thats even if you consider WW2 not being a religious war, which in fact it was since we have the persecusion of the jews by a Hitler who was a christian wishing to remove all jews via his final solution. We also have the Socialist killing millions of christians in poland because of their beliefs, yes, I would consider this a religious conflict also. In fact, the only wars I view as non religious in the 20th century are WW1(caused by Hans Ferdanand being assasinated), Korea (Communist expansion), Vietnam (Communist expansion), and the Spanish American war(USS Main was sunk in Cuba initiating the War), and IRAQ (our useless president bushleager initiated this).

I think I’ll start my own religion. Somewhere there is some idiot that will buy into me being the messiah and I could persuade them to do evil things in the name of god. Of course that would make me just like every other religion out there, and I prefer not to lower my standards. If you believe in religion, do yourself a favor and go to school and listen in history class, or your doomed to repeat it.

I suppose Adam still believes the earth is flat as well as only 6 thousand years old. Be careful on your next cruise Adam, make sure you warn the captain to not sail off the edge of the earth!

This pope just sentenced millions to their death sentence, I hope the pope dies a slow painful death.

Maybe he could sell some of the millions of dollars worth of paintings, statues, jewels, and tapestries they currently have in the vatican, or even donate some of the procedes they make on the items and admitance tickets to the vatican? Naaa, that stingy b@s tard rather keep it in the church where they need it and let us support those african people making aids babies at a feaver pace because some dum@zz said don’t use comdoms.

f c k u pope and every religion out there!
