Hot on the heels of the Chris Brown vs. Rihanna bust-up, Tyra Banks is devoting her talk show to the topic of teen dating abuse tomorrow. She’ll also make an appearance on Oprah that day. It’ll be dedicated to the same issue as well.
On the show, Tyra will make a shocking revelation: she too was once the victim of “emotional abuse” in a relationship.
The supermodel-turned-talking head later talks to a couple - 18-year-old Edwin and 17-year-old Leighann - who are currently in a violent relationship.
An excerpt of their interview:
Leighann: “I’m here because me and my boyfriend fight. … Me and him fist fight. We fight almost twice a week. … He punched me in my face about four times. … I had a black eye all this [my face] was blue and I had scratches all over my body. … I’ve been strangled almost. He put his arms around me and I blacked out.”
Edwin: “It starts off as a little problem and then it just escalates because she makes it escalate. … If she doesn’t get her way she’ll sit there and just fight on it until I do something.”
Tyra: “I dated a guy once years ago and he told me that he has this thing where he likes to break a woman down and then that makes him feel more in control. …. When I was in my emotionally abusive relationship … I’ll never forget I woke up in this hotel room in New York City and I just called him and I said, ‘I’m done.’ And I heard in his voice that he knew it was true and he just felt like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s telling the truth this time.’ And when you’re done you know you’re done.”

I do agree, it was only time before Tyra got on the bandwagon. However, i’m glad she’s helping those teen girls, and people watching her show; by sending out a good message.

that edwin kid and his girlfriend must have an excellent agent, because he’s getting them on some of the most watched shows. funny how when i saw them on tyra the other day-there was no mention of their baby. the t.i. story was fake and so was the tyra appearance.
