It’s been a rough year for for mom Melanie Brown. From her difficult pregnancy to the subsequent paternity battle, it’s been anything but calm waters for the lead Spice Girl songstress.
Mel’s latest hurdle to overcome? Accusations that her husband Stephan Belafonte is a wife beater.
“Everything I stand for is about being a strong, independent woman, so for him to be seen as a wife beater is devastating for me because he’s not - he never has been,” she tells the upcoming issue of Hello! magazine.
Mel also admitted that she hates it when her family and friends get the idea that her hubby is some kind of “psychopath.”
“They’re trying to make him out to be this aggressive, violent, woman batterer and he’s not. If you read those police reports, they never say he physically beat up a woman,” she says. “The only thing I don’t like is that my friends and family read this and go into shock-horror mode, thinking, ‘Oh, she’s married a psychopath!’”

The rumors about him beating his ex-girlfriend or whatever are disturbing but what about the fact that he bludegeoned a duck to death out front his house?!?! I mean WHO DOES THAT? That’s seriously crazy, anger management problems. He may have changed however and it must be awful for Mel to hear about people talk about her husband like that. It always hurts to hear people put down people you love, even if you know its true.
