STRAIGHT OUT OF THE ‘WTF’ FOLDER

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of her father’s death, Lisa Marie Presley not only decided to sing, but to sing with him.

The songstress has shot a posthumous video with Elvis Presley for his 1969 hit ‘In the Ghetto.’

She filmed the video in the hurricane-ravaged city, and all proceeds from the video and single will benefit a new Presley Place transitional housing campus there. Some viewers may find images in this video objectionable.

It’s beautiful song and she did a surprisingly good job with it. The video is ridiculous. The guns in the cribs is absolutely uncalled for and I suspect is more for shock factor than anything else. I would be very surprised if it got any air play anywhere.

I think this is a good idea especially the fact the money goes to help people BUT (you knew there had to be a but) I have always hated this song. It just seems condescending and preachy. Elvis, I know, lived in the ghetto as a child so I don’t think its coming from him personally, but the song has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Hey it worked for natalie Cole. She has a big hit with her dead father and won a bunch of Grammys. Besides this version of “In The Ghetto” is pretty good, it’s the best thing Lisa Marie has done!

You can tell she has listened to her Father’s music a lot because her voice when she sings imitates his. The guns in the cribs I think is for shock factor but it also is an artistic way to make people see a certain situation. It’s cool that she is giving $$ to charity that is more than a lot of people can say.

I agree -my2cents, people in the ghetto ARE basically teaching their children that violence and crime is the way to go, and those children will teach their children, etc. They expect to grow up and go to jail, most of them. That’s why I moved 20 miles north of the city. And I don’t think Lisa looks strung-out…she always has the sleepy-eyed look, she looks just like her dad. I think she’s really pretty. And it had to be emotional to record that, she’s not going to look all peppy and smiley…

“She filmed the video in the hurricane-ravaged city…”
    What city?
    (There’s no exterior shots.)

It looks like she made that video for about $35. Really poorly done.

It would be more shocking to have her film cutiepie images - that song is about a shocking situation.

I like her voice, but their voices don’t sound that good together.

The song’s about Chicago. When was there a hurricane in Chicago?

The original song was about Chicago but Lisa is using it to help NOLA.

what a cheap looking video. Looks homemade. “Let’s place that fake tear here. Let’s place these big ol guns on the kids, and make it black and white. Yah! Artistic! Meaningful! Dramatic” Final result: Failure! Cheap and amateur looking instead.

I think this is just a gorgeous idea. It was great when Natalie Cole did it so I don’t see why its so strange for Lisa Marie to do it. It would really bring her closer to her father and it must have been a really touching moment for her.

For those critizing Lisa Marie, you should of watched her interview on Good Morning America. You certainly would understand why she picked the song and how difficult it was for her. Bravo to you Lisa
Marie, your father would be so proud of you. Keep doing all that you give to our society.

She should have spared some money to hire a makeup artist…
