2009 ACADEMY AWARDS: HIGHLIGHTS

After making a late arrival to the 2009 Academy Awards in Hollywood on Sunday (February 22), a Rodarte-clad Natalie Portman joined bearded funnyman Ben Stiller – who dressed like Joaquin Phoenix on his recent visit with David Letterman — to present the Best Cinematography trophy.

As the actress began to present the award, she quickly stopped and chided her co-presenter. “I’m sorry, you’re chewing gum at the Oscars!” she said. “Okay, I’ll take it out,” Ben responded as he put it on the podium.

As Natalie continued to speak, Ben kept looking away leading her to say: “What’s going on?”
Said Ben: “I just want to retire from being a funny guy.”
Responded Natalie: “You look like you work at a Hassidic meth lab.”

After some aimless wandering around the stage, Ben finally announced the nominees, put the gum back in his mouth and announced the winner: Slumdog Millionaire.

The entire scene was lame and I felt sorry for Portman having to carry the load. Way to go Ben.

No I thought it was really lame. Not funny at all. I hate it when awards shows feel the need to make fun of other celebrities. I just don’t like humor at someone else’s expense if it’s kind of nasty, which I felt this was. Joaquin was an awesome actor and I don’t really know what he’s going through right now, but he should be shown a little respect. Natalie is all class though and she looked gorgeous! Love that dress!
