2009 COSTUME DESIGNER GUILD AWARDS

The stars put on their red carpet best for the 11th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills last night (February 17).

Hosted by Michael Douglas and Debra Messing, the celeb-packed event pays tribute to fashion experts in the entertainment industry.

So what exactly does a costume designer do, anyway? They transform the words of the script into visual imagery and creates the look of a character. Costume design helps to create believable characters and supports the narrative in a fictional universe. In other words, costume design is storytelling.

Celebrity attendees on hand to celebrate those who dress them included Chris Noth, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jennie Garth, Kathy Griffin, Kristin Davis, Tricia Helfer, Lori Loughlin and a Michael Kors-clad Taraji P. Henson.
