Dressed as Ku Klux Klan members, PETA members protested outside the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday (February 9), holding signs that read, “KKK and AKC Support Pure Bloodlines.”
Unlike the British Kennel Club, the American Kennel Club promotes breeding rules that lead to health problems that run up veterinary bills and cause dogs discomfort and premature death.
In the pursuit of “purity,” some breeders kill dogs who are not the “right” colour.
Meanwhile, a growing overpopulation crisis is forcing pounds and animal shelters to destroy an increasing number of mutts.
That being said, political protest? Or just poor taste?

…being an owner of 3 Boston Terriers….which I love..love…love…. I agree that pure bred dogs are “less vigorous” then a mutt…..but my Dogs are Tattooed and spade…. and yes they have ailments indicative of being bred……but I love them…and it ANGERS me that some people have taken the breed and use them in puppy mills….which makes the breed sicker…..inbreeding is horrible and I do report them.

Pure breed dogs have serious health problems! they are adorable, cute, posh….you name the human attribute given to race purity,
but all that is human manipulation as result of anthropocentric values, no regard for the well being of the dogs.
The dog show is just a tradition, not a good thing…only a repetitive ceremony glorifying human values

maybe these idiots should volunteer at a food bank…soup kitchen…perhaps a battered womans shelter…

This is, by far, one of the worst things I have seen PETA do. How dare they equate the plight of minorities from a HATE group to this? Are they going to compare the culling of elk herds to the Holocaust next?

I think that PETA has already liken something to the Holocaust…though I don’t remember what it was. I stopped even trying to discuss anything with PETA supporters after I was asked to sign a petition in support of the abolition of SLAVERY of BEES. BTW, if you donate to PETA because you oppose fur you are also donating to their efforts to stop all agricultural use of animals including milking cows and goats, beekeeping, sheering sheep etc.
