While Beyonce has been going on for months about how Etta James is one of her idols, it appears the object of her affection has been wanting to kick her butt!
The 71-year-old singer seemingly had her feathers ruffled when she heard that Beyonce sang her eternal hit, At Last, at Barack Obama’s Inauguration Ball.
Said Etta at a concert in Seattle last week, “Your President, the one with the big ears … he had that woman singing my song. She gone get her ass whipped.” She added: “The great Beyonce … I can’t stand Beyonce.”
Beyonce and her camp took the high road by not responding was reached for comment.
This, of course, begs the question: Team Etta or Team Beyonce?

Etta needs to grow up and at this late stage in her life maybe act with some dignity. It is sad to hear a woman of her age talking like that and it’s a good thing that she wasn’t asked to participate. If she was so real, then she shouldn’t have done promotion for Cadillac Records talking about what a good job Beyonce did if she didn’t mean it.
Etta James is FAR from a one-hit wonder. She’s one of the architects of modern r&b. Without her there’d be no Aretha Franklin, or anyone who Aretha spawned. Her discography is amazing…

Just because the only song of hers YOU ever heard was At Last doesn’t mean it was the only hit.
No one sings ‘At Last’ like Etta. I was so disappointed in Beyonce’s version and I think that Beyonce is very very talented. But ‘At Last,’ that deserves Etta. Malarky to all of you who talk of Etta’s age. Listen to her version of ‘At Last.’ Sublime.

Etta James should be proud that we finally have an African-American president. To refer to Mr. Obama as, “your president with the big ears” is shameful and makes her seem like a modern day mammy, an old black woman who is comfortable only when whites are in charge. Ms. James should realize that we all have our season in the sun and when it’s over, it’s over. The old graciously move on and the young take over. That’s the natural progression of life. One day Beyonce will also be old and a younger singer will assume her place in the spotlight. I think Beyonce will be wise enough to accept that. Too bad Etta James will die a bitter old woman.

i don’t understand why Ms Etta did not have a problem with Bey portraying her in the movie, and singing her song all over the damn place before the inauguration. it’s not Mrs. Carter’s fault that Etta may have been excluded from the festivities.
