A Daniel Radcliffe was seen jamming to his iPod while strolling through Hudson River Park in downtown Manhattan today (February 2).
Clearly sober, the British actor has expressed disappointment after learning that he can’t get served alcohol in the United States because he is under the legal drinking age of 21.
Nineteen-year-old Daniel — who can drink legally in his native UK — is quoted as saying: “My first night in New York we all went out and I was like, ‘Yeah let’s do it!” And then I was like, ‘The drinking age is what? It’s okay — I’ll be back in a few years.’”
This story would be far more impactful were it not for last weekend’s Michael Phelps controversy.

He looks strung out. Maybe holding off on the drinking is a good idea for Harry.
there’s good REASON why the age is 21. go google it.
Hahah I remember when I was under 21 and it was always awesome when I went home to Australia because I could go out without worrying about getting caught haha. I don’t see why it shouldnt be 18 to be honest. As soon as most teens go to college they are going to drink anyway, whether its in a bar or not. It’s safer to get drunk in a bar where there is security around then at a house party where anything could go wrong.
Hasn’t he bought two apartments in NYC and he’s just now figuring this out??
Barks, he knew before he came to NY for Equus. The article is a lie. He may have expressed disappointment recently, but it definitely wasn’t a surprise that the legal drinking age in the US is 21. I know he talked about it on Leno and maybe Conan, too.
For me it’s more natural to have a lower age limit on drinking in a bar, and then a higher limit for buying alcohole in a store. Drinking in a bar is really expensive in Sweden so you won’t have a big problem with drunk 18 year olds there. Or if you have, you as a bar owner can put a higher age limit.
For me the american rule goes well with the laws about putting your drink in a paperbag. Hipocracy. You just don’t want to see the alcohole, or the young person drinking, but how much do you care about the fact that all these people will be drinking anyway, and develope a “secret” party culture that includes other illegal stuff as well??
please, please, please Dan, drop the ‘like’.
Dan has not given an interview in the last weeks, so this is all a lie. He has always known perfectly well what the legal age is to be able to drink in the USA, he has been asked about it in some interviews some months or years ago. He can drink in the UK, where he lives, and he has never been in any scandal, so stop trying to make him look like any other teen star because he is actually one of the only ones who is decent.
And he can not drop the ‘like’ because he is British, and British people say it a lot, just like people from America use certain words a lor and British people don’t say ‘drop it’ to you.
This headline is stupid, Harry Potter is a fictional character, and the fact that you used it like that is enough to know that all you wrote is not true even before reading it. Pure sensationalism. I remember Daniel talking about the legal drinking age in one of the late talk shows at least one year ago, I think it was on Leno, so this is all made up. He works everyday on Broadway, and if you would have seen the play you’d know when he finishes his work every night, it’s not possible to want to go to party, that role is exhausting, brilliant, but very demanding. So it’s easy to guess you have these new picsof him walking, and since there is anything wrong about walk you felt you have to made up something sensationalistic to enclose the pictures… pathetic. even more pathetic is how some people read these things and believe it. lol
The drinking age nationally in the USA was 17/18 from the 1940s through the late years after Vietnam. The drinking age changed nationally during the early 1990s. Kids under 21 CAN in fact drink, but only in their houses and in private areas. Basically, don’t drink in public or you WILL get caught. Drinking in your own house, friends/relatives house with other people their is fine.
actually the drinking age was risen to 21 in 1984. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984.
its obviously fake, the quotes and stuff, dan doesnt speak like that.
