DONTELLA KEEPS HER CHEAP CLOTHES EXPENSIVE

Looking tanned and toned, Donatella Versace flashed photogs a quick smile a she shopped in Manhattan today (February 2) at the store Scoop.

The Italian fashion designer is making headlines after deciding to spit in the face of the recession by deciding not to cut prices in response to the economic downturn. (Prada — for the first time ever –put up sale signs in their windows in Milan.)

In a recent interview with Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore, company CEO Giancarlo Di Risio said they don’t want to make their merchandise by pandering to the likes of teen girls.

“Our regular client was not queuing on January 3-4 in Milan or Rome but was on the slopes in St Moritz or on a boat in the Caribbean,” he said. “We want to offer a real luxury and not to open our doors to the consumption of young girls who can put the designer handbag of their dreams on their arm with less than 300 Euros. We are not interested in that.”

Our thoughts? Have luxury brands become too accessible? Or should someone shove a designer sock in it?

The idea of agreeing with Donatella Versace is revolting but it is definitely true. Brands like Louis Vuitton aren’t even luxury anymore. Not that Versace is anything but I think they should maintain a certain level of high prices.

well maybe these designers should stop designing things that appeal to teeny boppers and stop using girls who are only 16 and 17 to model the clothes on the runway. It is hypocritical to say that the clothes are to accessible to teens when they use them models and spokesmen. Just ridiculous!

Her plastic surgery is terrible and has ruined her looks in my opinion. Her style is fantastic though and if you cut off her head she would look awesome. It would be wonderful to have access to all the amazing clothes that Versace designs! I agree though that they shouldnt lower the prices. They are a luxury brand and there are still people in the world who can afford them. If you could afford to buy Versace twelve months ago you should still be able to afford to now.

Yeah we all want leathery, orange skin. I think the late Versace made that company not her.
