BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF THE NIGHT

At this point, the award winners at last night’s (January 25) Screen Actors Guild Awards seem inconsequential, but a good thank-you speech will always been remembered.

No one knows that better than Meryl Streep.

She surprisingly beat out Revolutionary Road’s Kate Winslet to win the Best Leading Actress award for her role in Doubt, but it was her speech that truly deserved a trophy.

Well done, Meryl!

Um, it was an awkward speech, breathless and dramatic. Kudos to Meryl for keeping it real and showing her excitement and funny side.

there’s no such thing as a bad actress. there’s no such thing as a great actress. we’re all equal. who is to say what’s good and what’s bad? judging is bad. people try hard and might get their feelings hurted. we’re all in this together.
    no more award ceremonies!

She’s all class and when she speaks you can tell she means it and it’s from the heart. Her speech wasn’t perfectly polished but she knew what she had to get up there and say and what she wanted to say and it made me smile to hear her say such nice things about her peers and the other amazing women nominated. I think people can get caught up in who the ‘winner’ is sometimes and forget what a huge feat it is to get there in the first place. All the nominees did a spectacular job.

She wore stretch pants? To a nationally televised awards broadcast? Of which she was a nominee? Well, I hope she’s learned her lesson. Even throwing on one of last year’s gown would have been infinitely preferable to all that tugging and yanking she did at that ill-fitting top.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Meryl Streep is a giant amongst her kind. But she only looks absent-minded and in her dotage when she ignores convention and goes to the SAG Awards dressed like she’s planning to do a bit of yoga in the aisles. She cared enough to come to the awards, she should have cared enough to dress as such.
