The big trophy of the night — the Producers Guild of America Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award — went to Slumdog Millionaire’s Christian Colson. Just ten days ago, the low-budget arthouse rags-to-riches story nabbed 10 Oscar nominations.
The Producers Guild award is considered an important indicator for Oscar success as its members make up an important constituency of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Oscars.
Slumdog swept up four Golden Globe awards earlier this month. Directed by Briton Danny Boyle and starring the likes of Freida Pinto and Dev Patel (who were all in attendance), the film is a leading contender for the Academy Award’s best picture.
Other A-listers actors and fiilmmakers on hand to fête and be feted included Al Gore, Brian Grazer, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kirk Douglas and son Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito, Debra Messing, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, Michael Sheen, Natalie Portman, Ron Howard and Scrubs star Zach Braff.
Meanwhile, the Screen Actors Guild is set to bestow its awards in a televised show Sunday night. Be sure to tune into FYB tonight (January 25) for the best red carpet coverage this side of the net!!
