For you local Torontonians on your way to the BMO Field tonight (i.e. me), don’t bother looking Major League Soccer’s highest-profile and highest-paid player.
Shortly after strolling into a crowded press conference yesterday that included reporters from across Canada and the U.S., David Beckham said his bad left ankle will force him to delay his regular season MLS debut at least one more game.
Strangely, despite his on-going injury, Becks will manage to meet each and every one of his celebrity commitments. The Cruise-hosted weclome party. Lunch at the Ivy. You name it.
Feel free to throw rocks at Beckham’s hotel room while he’s still here.
He’s staying at The Fairmont Royal York.

I don’t like his teeth.
What a waste of money.
well, gee, that’s irresponsible of you, ASL - giving out his hotel. What are you hoping for? Fans to storm the building? For what? What are you wishing for? Bodily harm to him and his family? Gee, ASL, maturity is a virtue. Think about it.
it’s common knowledge in toronto he’s staying at the fairmont. i don’t think it was exactly classified information.
nobody ever said americans were smart…
kontrisux: where are YOU from? Don’t insult ALL Americans. You are a dipshit.
I love how he can’t play, but he cna shop, go out every night and dance at parties. Not good Dave, not good.
I live in Toronto, everybody stays at the Fairmont, EVERYBODY.
I’ve seen J.Lo, Hayden Christensen, etc etc there, especially during the film fest, it’s pretty crazy.
My friend used to work near there and celebs were always around.
That and I don’t think his family would fly in just for a game.
I used to like Becks, but he’s really turning out to be a let down.
Some people paid $1000+ for tix to that game.
>>>Some people paid $1000+ for tix to that game
Okay, what part of SPRAINED ANKLE dont some people understand, it takes 6-8 weeks atleast to heal!!
Oh and wow, he can go out to eat- thats WALKING, very different to running, tackling, passing, etc. He has been working on it, going to the gym, etc, but he’s not superman!
Why is the webmaster being refered to as ASL? WTF? Becks is still God.. He sucks at playing anyway, can’t they just realise he is eyecandy and a reason to watch American Soccer because it sucks so bad without him. He is there to sell the game, not play it.
What the hell kind of soccer do you watch if you think there’s tackling involved?..
AND people seem to forget he injured the ankle in June, it’s now a week into August….
He’s been playing professional soccer for 15 years - it’s only natural he’s going to have injuries just like every other athlete & there is a huge difference between running around a soccer field & walking from your car into the ivy - get a grip you fucking idiots!
What a shyster!!!
I agree with you ME!. David loves to play soccer and he knows when he is up to playing and when he is not. Would you rather him go straight on the field and play and shit game and probably attain more injuries? Or would you rather him hold off and give you your money’s worth at the next game? And yes walking from a car to a restraunt is a lot different than running around a soccer field. Give the guy a break, I’d like to see you play as well as he could with an ankle injury!
Acually I think they’re staying at the King Edward…
football fans- he’s only going to get worse! These are his sunset days and i will put money that in the next year (or however long the contract is) he will spend more time off the field than on- get used to it!
he’s still fuckin hot though
^Nooooooooo! I happen to like Beck’s play and he’s an awesome free-kicker, but he’s rapidly nearing soccer retirement age… Ah well :(. Anyway I agree that people should get off his back about being off the field- it’s important that his injury heal completely, especially since he plays a sport as physically draining and active as soccer. The LA deal is all about raising their profile with his celebrity though, I don’t expect LA Galaxy to improve just because Becks is on the team.
do people expect him to play on a bad ankle?
it’s outrageous he’s getting $250 million - but not his fault. blame the dummy (or dummies) who offered it to him.
I’ve been playing soccer for 6 years, and have had an ankle problem for the last three. However, I can walk, dance, shop, party, whatever. Soccer is a major strain on the body (although few americans know this). And, as many of you have said, he’s played soccer for quite some time. No one who knows anything about the sport expected him to play all matches. Anyway, there’s a reason he moved a way from soccer of quality; he’s retiring soon…
sprained ankle my ass; he gets himself to enough events with his wife each week….
