LANE’S VERY OWN PRISON BREAK

The folks over at TMZ are blogging directly from the courtroom where Lane Garrison’s sentencing hearing is underway.
It’s quite the tearfest.
As you may recall, Lane was charged with vehicular manslaughter after an accident in December that left a 17-year-old passenger dead.
There’s been the suggestion that hunky young star may have unknowingly taken a date-rape drug, and testimony that he lied about being the driver.
Meanwhile, the former ‘Prison Break’ star could be free after 90 days. An L.A. judge reprimanded Lane to corrections officials for “diagnostics.”
TMZ’s legal eagles explain that the sentence means Lane, who plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter, will be seen by doctors and experts in the correctional system to see if he is a good candidate for probation.
Prosecutors wanted the him to serve the full four years.
A case of justice served or celebrity justice? Discuss.

it seems like you should do serious time if someone dies and you were driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. it’s not a situation like Brandy’s, which appears to be a legitimate accident. Ninety days does not seem harsh enough.

It’s celebrity justice again. I don’t get it at all. If it was you or me, average citizen who really makes the world go round, we would be under the jail! Same for what Richie is getting. 4 fucking days for a second DUI? I would lose my license for 10 years, and auto year in jail, rehab, all kinds of classes and all the court costs. She gets 4 days. Paris - same shit, yet to hear her, she spent 23 years in prison instead of days. What a fuckin joke. You can murder (OJ, Baretta, and soon to be Spector), you can drive like a fuckin looney, wasted for all you are worth, drive around town at high speeds, get arrested, get a slap on the wrist, and go on doing the same shit over and over - Lindsey Blowme will get a little spanking too. Glad I live on the “right coast” where fair is at least a little closer to fair.

He’s kinda cute, is he gay?

This guy has some serious issues. Isn’t he 20 something? Why was he rolling around with 15 year-old kids boozing it up? I am surprised he wasn’t charged with more and he friggin killed someone!!!! I understand people make mistakes and sometimes those are doozies that effect the rest of their (and others) lives. That is life. He should serve some serious time for this as sad as he may be about what he did. He knew better and that is the law. If it is a case of celebrity justice then that is just crazy because I would hardly call him a celebrity.

sigh: WTF? he shouldn’t go to jail, b/c he’s HOT to you? That’s fucked up.
he got off easy- I’m so sick of this bullshit.

he’s a thoughtless, selfish pig who should rot in prison
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:48 pm
I would be outraged too, if I didn’t believe that he was genuinely remorseful for what he did. There must be some precedent for this 90 day thing, so it’s not as though he’s being released JUST b/c he’s famous.

A classmate here in Houston got into an accident and on the way back from Galveston (after much drinking) they got into an accident when his huge truck (it’s Texas) jumped the curb and flipped over. Anyway, the passenger (his best friend) suffocated. It really was a crazy sad time and he also got charged with what this guy got but instead of doing four years of jail time, they said they would allow him to do 9 months in solitary confinement, no parole or anything like that. And he served that time. So, hell yeah this ish is light. Just because you have a high powered attorney who can really help express how bad you feel shouldn’t effing matter. My classmate felt like shit for years afterwards, but to be honest, everyone (even mutual friends) agreed that the fact that he wasn’t eligible for parole was fair. I mean, if you eff up you eff up …just take your consequences and learn from it.

every one of you sanctimonious asswipes has driven while under the influence. I have been pulled over and interrogated by police 7 TIMES while under the influence. I consider my good fortune in having never injured or killed anyone (let alone be charged) reason enough to count my blessings and never do it again. The fact that this guy is a celebrity is MORE reason to let him off without extended incarceration on an unusual sentence, one that requires him to work together with the cops and THE MEDIA to try to effect some change. i do believe that the texan punishment of 9 months solitary would be a good precursor to a diagnostic evaluation, because during such a period, Garrison would have time to be alone with his actions, the results of his actions, and the true nature of his singular conscience …

Apparently his grief was not so strong as to stop him from getting a very trendy haircut for court. I guess that was for the benifit of the judge and jury.

He should be in jail, even if he’s a celebrity. He should definitely do his time in prison.

i can’t pass judgment on this one…i couldn’t even tell you how many times i drove under the influence; every one thinks “that will never happen to me” type thing, not consciously, but subconsciously for sure. i don’t think jail would do him any good, or anyone else. adn everyone trying to compare something that happened in their state to one in Cali, it just doesnt’ work; cali has a very unique penal system. is that the right word?

What are you advocating here, JC? That since you got away with impaired driving so much that everyone else should? I’m glad that you’re committed to driving sober now, but I’m frankly amazed that you it took you so long to get the message. It’s stories like yours that make me wonder how effective PSAs are anyway.
