35TH ANNUAL PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS: HIGHLIGHTS

Adam Sandler picked up the prize for Favourite Funny Male Star at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Sandler beat out Jim Carrey and Steve Carell for the honour, which was the first fan-voted award given out during the evening.

“I appreciate this,” the Bedtime Stories star said, upon accepting his statuette. “I have honestly always made my movies for the people. If I made them for the critics, I would have hung myself 20 years ago, so thank you.”

Not only did Carrie Underwood pick up a few awards, but she also performed on Wednesday night’s People’s Choice Awards.

Dressed in a stunning green creation by Zuhair Murad, the country singing sensation belted out her ballad, I Know You Won’t, complete with a full orchestra.

27 Dresses nabbed the Favorite Movie Comedy title.

“This is awesome,” star Katherine Heigl declared. “You guys are amazing. We had the most amazing and fun time making this movie.”

House star Hugh Laurie beat out Patrick Dempsey for People’s Choice Favourite Male TV Star.

Ironic considering that Hugh openly hates people.

No Air singer Jordin Sparks out popped Rihanna’s Disturbia and Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl by stealing the Favourite Pop Song award.

The American Idol Season 6 winner is working on a new album. As she reflected on the past year, she said, “2008 was such an incredible year. No Air came out and it took off. I also got to go to Africa with the president, and I got to sing at the Super Bowl. So now I have to figure out how to top my own self for 2009.”

Considering that he was the only rock star there, it came as no surprise that Kid Rock won the award for Favourite Rock Song.

Reese Witherspoon was named Favourite Female Movie Star at the star-studded show on Wednesday night.

“Thank you so much. This is such a great way to start the new year,” Reese, who starred in Four Christmases, said as she collected her prize.

A disheveled Kate Hudson beat out show host Queen Latifah and her Bride Wars co-star Anne Hathaway to nap the Favourite Leading Lady award.

The Gucci-clad 29-year-old actress was apparently stuck in traffic and running late for the show, promoting pal Ellen DeGeneres to joke: “Not a good way to sell a movie, Kate!”

Ellen DeGeneres was an early winner at the People’s Choice Awards.

“I wish I could share this with you,” she told the audience while clutching her trophy for Favourite Talk Show Host. “I could throw it on the ground and smash it into a million pieces, and give each one of you a little piece of it, but that’s violent, and that’s probably why you voted for me, because I’m not violent.”

She later went on to thank her “roommate” Portia De Rossi, likely a quip at the recent passing of California’s Proposition 8 which eliminates same-sex couples’ right to marry.

The Dark Knight took home every award it was nominated for, including Favourite Cast, Superhero, Action Movie and On-Screen Matchup for Christian Bale’s Batman and the late Heath Ledger’s Joker.

“On behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans,” said the caped crusader. “Here’s to Heath.”

What is with that green old lady looking gown Carrie Undwood is wearing - man, that chick looks 35 and dresses like she’s 65.

And Jordan Sparks looks like Jaba the Hut in an 80’s prom dress. Ewww.

I was about to comment that America Ferrera got fat but then I realized it was actually Jordin Sparks. They look just alike.

At quick glance, I thought it was America Ferrera too. Jordin Sparks annoys the hell out of me, for some reason.

I think Carrie looks really pretty here, the dress is gorgeous. At first I thought she was actually Jessica Simpson back in 2004. Jordin Sparks realllyyyyy gets on my nerves, nearly as much as her song does. Kate Hudson looks gorgeous and I’m really glad Ellen had something to say about her and Portia’s ‘marriage’. It’s ridiculous that it may not be valid anymore.

I think Carrie looks pretty even tho she plays it safe with the same ole look.. Jordin has gained weight and should really stop wearing the shoulder baring dresses.. not very becoming. Katherine looks boring like she’s too cheap to invest in something that will make her stand out.

For someone who got an award for singing No Air she seems to be packing quite a bit. Some one please let her know she can breath now….
