ISLA FISHER DOES BRITISH ‘INSTYLE’

Isla Fisher tells the February issue of British InStyle that she refuses to have surgery to change the way she looks!

Insisting she is proud of what God gave her, the Confessions of a Shopaholic actress says, “Being proud of who we are as people is more important than cutting into ourselves to create this false idea of beauty. I think there is nothing sexier than laughter lines. I haven’t done the white teeth — I haven’t really Americanized my look. But we will see what happens when you interview me in five years. Maybe I’ll be looking permanently surprised. Having a baby really changes your priorities. I’m the happiest I have ever been in my life. Being a mother is by far my greatest accomplishment.”

Isla also reveals that she dons a fake mustache when she is alone with her Borat babydaddy Sacha Baron Cohen.

She jokes: “I think there is nothing sexier than a handlebar mustache. We have a spare one at home - and I wear it.”

I have a feeling that Isla and Sacha will never get married. They’ve been engaged for years and have a baby and so far nothing. Isla is supposdley converting to Orhtodoxy Judaism but it’s not acceptable in that form of Judaism to convert for marriage. Sacha is forcing Isla to convert to please his religious Jewish parents. Sacha admitted in an interview that he’s is not religious so the whole thing is a sham. Sacha’s mother criticized Isla for filming a movie in the summer instead of finishing her Jewish studies. Unfortunately Isla is too weak to stand up for herself and is letting these people dictate her belief system.

Another bad sign for their relationship is that Isla babydaddy was photographed kissing another women in a nightclub a few weeks ago. Sacha looked very happy and flirty up a storm around this particular woman. If I were Isla I would cut my losses and run. There is a child involved but Isla will never satisfy Sacha’s parents and forcibly converting to a new religion is bad for one’s soul.

I completely agree that Isla and Sacha will never get married, although for different reasons. Madison is correct that they’ve been engaged for years and with the baby, now would think they’d be in a hurry to marry–especially since his parents are said to be pressuring for it. It was reported in the fall of 2006 that Isla has indeed converted Judaism, but later reports say that she hasn’t “fully converted”–whatever that means. She may be attempting to convert to Orthodoxy, but you are correct that it’s not acceptable in that form of Judaism to convert for marriage. Nor can a Kohen, a descent of Moses’ brother Aaron (which Sacha is),marry a convert anyway in Orthodoxy. Their daughter, however, could be converted into any branch of Judaism–and that only could solve the problem.

I doubt that Sacha is forcing Isla to convert to “please his religious Jewish parents.” He is he a grandson of Holocaust survivors and is probably fairly torn himself about his relationship with Isla and not having Jewish kids. As a Jew who is married to a non-Jew, I would assume that he told her early on where he stood. My husband and I had that conversation BEFORE our first real date. That he wouldn’t have told her straight up about potential problems is unbelievable to me.

You are correct that Sacha admitted in an interview that “he’s is not that religious,” but I think you are wrong that “the whole thing is a sham.” He keeps the Sabbath and keeps kosher. That’s fairly religious, more in fact than most whether Sacha thinks so or not. Besides, a lot of Jewishness revolves around a sense of belonging to a people. A lot of people who are far less observantr than Sacha still have strong Jewish identities. I also rather doubt that “Isla is too weak to stand up for herself and is letting these people dictate her belief system.” Isla is well known for going after what she wants and getting it. I’d bet that includes going after Sacha no matter what the obstacles are. In fact, there was an inerview with Luenell where she said that Isla wears the pants in that relationship. I also find it interesting that Isla became pregnant nearly immedialtely after her conversion and right before the Golden Globe awards. Maybe he was done with her and she had the baby to hold on to him.

You said, “Another bad sign for their relationship is that Isla babydaddy was photographed kissing another women in a nightclub a few weeks ago. Sacha looked very happy and flirty up a storm around this particular woman.” I saw those pics too. He looked to be having a great time, even though it wasn’t clear that he actually kissed her or that it was any more than a Hollywood social kiss. I’d be worried if it were my husband enjoying another woman’s company that much. It is a sign that something’s wrong that he was having that much fun.

I agree that Isla should cut her losses and run. She won’t though. She needs him to advance her career. Before him, she was posing half nude for FHM and doing a few B movies. It was his stardom that brought her to international attention and got her some real movie roles. We’ll see if she can maintain that without him

Thanks Jill for your insightful comments. You made me knowledgable about Judaism. I understand why it’s important for Jews to pass on their traditions to the children but I don’t agree with conversion for marriage purposes. Sacha shouldn’t have dated Isla if he wanted a Jewish wife. It’s as simple as that. I believe in true love but one shouldn’t have to change for your partner ever!

Thanks, Madison. That’s nice of you to say. I sort of agree with you about his never starting up with Isla, but I’m in no position to criticize as my husband isn’t Jewish. I will say that I think it’s easier to raise Jewish kids when it’s the wife who is Jewish as opposed to the husband.

#7–Yeah, seeing that post up on the website, it’s easy to see your point. It does look obsessive. To give your question a serious answer, I know the religious stuff because I am a Jewish community lay professional. I know the Sacha stuff because part of my job involves surfing the net for Jewish pop culture items. I’m equally obnxiously knowledgeable about Matisyahu, whom I’ve actually met, and Amy Winehouse. Sad, but true. ;-)

To MikeC.–”Wedding Crashers” and “Borat” were both produced by Jay Roach. I’d guess it was a package deal, because prior to Sacha, Isla’s career consisted mostly of soap opera roles and posing for girly magazines.

    hey Madison,

I have to say that Ms. Isla is the full package, it is rare when a guy like me will bother to find out more about a person to see if his natural interest in someone is justified, in particular a celeb that is about as likely to run into my life as I am of getting a sex change just for a change of perspective. That said, I cannot believe that Sascha is not going to marry Isla. I mean she is clearly a person who knows how to love deeply. I mean working on converting to judaism to make things more sympatico between he and her and his family… WOW. I know that in hollywood actually quite a few people are tempted to convert to Judaism because hollywood is a place where being a jewish person is advantageous but from the evidence i have read, I do not think that is at all why she is making the conversion. So here you have this gorgeous girl, that has lived in many place around the world, is literate and creative enough to have authored two best selling teen novels. Is really beautiful, and by really I mean naturally beautiful, she has a terrific sense of humor and from all that I have seen and read is a genuinely down to earth person. And then I read that Sascha was photographed kissing a hot strange girl in a club recently and he has a kid. All I can say to that is WOW (shaking head), here is someone who obviously is spoiled and selfish. If he is not going to marry her and yet he had a child with her and he let her work on converting to judaism to make things more acceptable to his family? All I can say is I hope that the Karma train comes around and gives him whatever is coming to him, which I cannot really judge as we really do not know what is going on. But I can say that hot women in hollywood are pretty to look at but rarely do not garner any interest from me, but Isla comes off as that girl that even if you were not the guy to marry her that you would love to have as a friend as she projects a vibe of loyalty compassion based humor, and intelligence. It is fine if for whatever reason Sascha is not fully committed to Isla but he is really a selfish ass if he has always struggled with that inner instinct and yet he has let her do So much to become deeply integrated in his family. I can tell you what though, Any dude that does reciprocate the love that Isla I am sure is capabable of giving out will be a very very lucky man. And also hello Ms Jill, while I am not jewish I grew up next door to and my folks were extremely close friends with a family that was jewish and I was sort of raised as a surrogate son and I totally agree that being Jewish unlike many other religious categories is much more about being part of a group of people who share certain cultural values and history. I will also say that you are putting an awful lot of negative light on Ms Isla who now is an oscar nominee and was clearly an up and comer a while ago. how do i know this? I lived in northern and southern california and went to college there and have many friends who are prominently involved in the motion picture business. I am sorry but while I know enough to completely understand the that being jewish is as much about being part of a group of people and a culture as much or even more so than it being a religion, I have to say your standards of uprightness for Mr Sascha is a bit lacking. I have had clingy dates that tried hard to make things more than I could see happening with them and some that I could even see trying to get a hook in by impregnation, you know what my solution was for those women? Do not have sex wit them… You know one of the ten commandments? Ok I am getting a bit snarky and I apologize but to insinuate that Isla used a child to keep Sascha Baron Cohen is an awful lot to conclude without any real evidence to back that up. Also, Sascha is also a Johnny come lately to major stardom so the idea that she was with him to hitch a career ride in and of itself seems a bit thin. If you simply go to wikipedia and look up about the girl, You will see that she had already a building career as an actress and some accumulated wealth as a best selling author of two teen novels. I do not dis like “Mr Borat” he is clearly a very smart man with a bright future in front of him. I would even go so far as to say that he could be an unfolding comic Genius though I thought his Ali G show was idiotic myself, someone watched it and Borat was a really amazing accomplishment. Never the less, a man who was raised by Orthodox jewish parents, meaning he should have been given some idea of morality and identity to knowingly have a child with non-jewish woman and then blow her off for the spoils of his fairly newly acquired superstar status is well weak and you trying to save the reputation of a Jewish boy who has done well to the point that without any evidence you turn around known facts that he has been seen and photographed in a number of womanizing situations, while engaged to a woman who has actively worked to convert to judaism, and that he had a child out of wedlock with that woman is really sad. He will always be a hollywood comic genius but that does not mean that you cannot, for the good of your culture and your religions moral code, ingore the fact that he is acting like a spoiled star who is not taking his role as a father if nothing else seriously enough. I hope that we are all wrong and it was a series of harmless hollywood kisses that have ben photographed and that the two of them will live happlily ever after. But if not and Isla is hearbroked by him after trying to convert to judaism and having his child then I say that is a real shame. and again from what I have read and seen, isla is now being seen as possible next generation A lister , most certainly in the genres of romance, romantic comdies and comedies. I think you wold acquit your positioin a bit better by acknowledgin the womans many natural gifts and achievments. lol ok — I have now made my enormous post and seem likely like some funky stalker but the fact is that it is not that hard to look on Imdb or to look up the names in wikipedia which is what i did and do some reading. for the purposes of being optimistic I will hope that the two are in love and both will be happy and successful but if not, I think that Isla will be JUST FINE without Sascha Baron Cohen at this point, and to say that she is only holding on to him for career purposes is absurd. Heck if she were single she could very well trade up! though I do not beleive she would do that just to advance her career, but I do not know her perhaps she is just one incredibly smooth operater and all those that seem to think she is an authentic person are all fooled, its happened before. I guess time will tell.
