A few minor changes are coming to American Idol, which kicks off January 13.
In addition to the fourth judge - Kara DioGuardi, look for 36 hopefuls, up from 24, to be chosen for February’s semifinals.
And wild-card picks — back for the first time since Season 3 — will let the judges put three singers into the top 12.
Also, the Idol Gives Back charity fundraiser is taking the year off but is expected to return for a third time in Season 9.
An odd decision, needless to say, considering the difficult economic times and social landscape.

Nothing will save this show from sinking, sorry.
i love that paula has been going around shilling the recent suicide of her stalker in order to get ratings for this show. i swear, american idol spawns only evil. the sooner this show goes off the air, the better.
who’s the new judge, what she famous for?
I can’t even believe this show is still on the air and that it’s the Number One show. Go figure. I’m more of an MSNBC guy myself.
