THE ONLY COMBAT EXPERIENCE BUSH HAS EVER HAD

An Iraqi television journalist hurled two shoes at President George W. Bush today during a joint news conference Bush was holding with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to mark the signing of a U.S.-Iraq security agreement.

The American president dodged the shoes and was not struck. Bodyguards quickly wrestled Muntadar al-Zaidi to the floor and hauled him, kicking and screaming, from the room. Two other Iraqi journalists were briefly detained after one of them called Zaidi’s actions “courageous.”

“All I can report,” Bush joked of the incident, “is a size 10.”

It seems a little ridiculous for Republicans to castigate Obama for not having combat experience when most of the men of his generation, don’t, because there weren’t any major US wars (except for the Gulf War) and considering that they chose Bush instead of Gore and Kerry who were both combat veterans it is an even sillier comment. I’d rather have a president who actually knows the Constitution and can speak intelligently on any issue rather than one who has fighter pilot experience that helped keep Alabama safe during the Vietnam War because that’s what Bush did, you f*cking morons. Congratulate yourselves for supporting the idiot that has left our country decimated economically and otherwise.

Hmmmm must be unaware that we had a DUMBOCRATIC CONGRESS for the past 3YEARS.
Barney Frank his lover Herb Moses at fannie or freddie.
Senator Dodd all three have caused the MORTGAGE MELTDOWN that has had a domino effect around the world by give mortgages to poor and illegals that don’t qualify in the first place …..look it up. But You won’t hear it from the mainstream MEDIA.

Anonymous, I know of this too about Barney Frank who was in charge of regulating. You’re right that it’s an absolutely valid point. I was actually talking to my brother about it who works in finance on election night (and he still voted for Obama). It’s not the whole reason however for the housing melt-down.

I really wonder sometimes if Bush really knows just how much he is hated around the world and in this country.

No prez is perfect but the truth is that Bush has had 3 wars to deal with and the worst one has been with BIASED MEDIA. The biased media is responsible for portraying America and it’s leaders as the worst in the world when the contrary is true.

I blame the Media for it’s propaganda and the blatant positive bias when it comes to the DEMS.
The media is mostly ignoring today that Governor Palin’s church was attacked by an arsonist. the NYT has the news on page A41 , if it were obama’s church it would be front page news.

If B. Frank, Moses and Dodd were republicans they would have arrested and brought up on charges by the DEmocratic Congress.

Think about how much money that is and you tell me what we got out of it. NOTHING! As for Palin’s church being burnt down, I don’t give a fuck. Blame the Russians, I’m sure she did. All you Repugnicans still can’t swallow the fact that OBAMA is our new President so live with it or move to Canada. Wait, they don’t want your sorry ass either.

i certainly don’t want to see obama treated this way.

    December-14-2008 @ 6:55 pm

When I saw the news ticker that Palin’s church had been attacked, I thought that was terrible. Violence like that only hurts your cause and point of view. I also don’t think shoes should be hurled at anyone because people should be allowed to speak (however how much of a miserable failure they are) without fear of violence.

What the Iraqi journalists could have done to express disgust and protest against Bush would be to stand (or sit) with their backs to Bush during the news conference. A non-violent way to express your outrage. Would have had a better impact. And I am pretty confident history will not be too kind to Bush and that’s an understatement.

Yeah! Poor Bush! A shoe was thrown at him for invading a country!!! mmmmm

    -
What about not invading countries just for the heck of it, to then make some money by selling bombs, to then sell contacts to AMERICAN reconstruction teams? Business as war, and War as business: as violent as you can get ! What is really amazing is that all of those americans and all the rest of the planet can see it EXCEPT hard core dumbass republicans.

. Social Costs of the war

U.S. Budget and Social Programs: The Bush administration’s combination of massive spending on the war and tax cuts for the wealthy means less money for social spending. The $151.1 billion expenditure for the war through this year could have paid for: close to 23 million housing vouchers; health care for over 27 million uninsured Americans; salaries for nearly 3 million elementary school teachers; 678,200 new fire engines; over 20 million Head Start slots for children; or health care coverage for 82 million children. Instead, the administration’s FY 2005 budget request proposes deep cuts in critical domestic programs and virtually freezes funding for domestic discretionary programs other than homeland security. Federal spending cuts will deepen the budget crises for local and state governments, which are expected to suffer a $6 billion shortfall in 2005.

Social Costs to the Military: Thus far, the Army has extended the tours of duty of 20,000 soldiers. These extensions have been particularly difficult for reservists, many of whom never expected to face such long separations from their jobs and families. According to military policy, reservists are not supposed to be on assignment for more than 12 months every 5-6 years. To date, the average tour of duty for all soldiers in Iraq has been 320 days. A recent Army survey revealed that more than half of soldiers said they would not re-enlist.

Costs to Veteran Health Care: About 64 percent of the more than 5,000 U.S. soldiers injured in Iraq received wounds that prevented them from returning to duty. One trend has been an increase in amputees, the result of improved body armor that protects vital organs but not extremities. As in previous wars, many soldiers are likely to have received ailments that will not be detected for years to come. The Veterans Administration healthcare system is not prepared for the swelling number of claims. In May, the House of Representatives approved funding for FY 2005 that is $2.6 billion less than needed, according to veterans’ groups.

Mental Health Costs: A December 2003 Army report was sharply critical of the military’s handling of mental health issues. It found that more than 15 percent of soldiers in Iraq screened positive for traumatic stress, 7.3 percent for anxiety, and 6.9 percent for depression. The suicide rate among soldiers increased from an eight-year average of 11.9 per 100,000 to 15.6 per 100,000 in
2003. Almost half of soldiers surveyed reported not knowing how to obtain mental health services.

    The whole study is here

Which is exactly what I’m going to do. Smell ya’.

  28. December-15-2008 @ 2:53 am

25—I’d rather pay for a war that rids the world of a murderous dictator who took out a contract on the life of a US president and harbored terrorists than pay for “23 million housing vouchers” for lazy ass, irresponsible ingrates, or throw more money at a failed public education monopoly that funnels millions in campaign contributions to democratic politicians to prevent a voucher system that would allow poor parents to send their kids to private schools. In relative terms, the Iraq war has been fairly cheap by historical standards, costing about $120 billion a year or around one per cent of GDP, compared to 45 percent of GDP for World War II. War is never without mistakes or miscalculations, but the Iraq War war is a just cause waged in a responsible manner to limit civilian casualties, and is now, with no thanks to people like Harry Reid and Barack Obama who declared the surge a failure before it began, largely won.

Yeah it was pretty funny but I felt really uneasy about it to be honest. George Bush has made some huge mistakes and I don’t think his last visit was ever going to go smoothly, BUT he has had one of the hardest jobs in the world and he has had a lot of criticism. I’m certainly not standing up for him but I don’t like it when anyone gets booed or treated this way in public. It’s not really necessary. This could have potentially been very dangerous, bet someone’s bodyguards were fired- shit job they did getting there in time for the second one.
