PUTTING THE FALSE INTO FALSE EYELASHES

If you’ve long fretted over the fact that your lashes never seem to look as long or full as the models in those mascara commercials, there may be a reason why!
According to Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority, mega cosmetics company L’Oreal misled consumers by failing to make clear that Penelope Cruz was wearing some fake individual lashes on her Paris Telescopic Mascara commercial.
L’Oreal said it would comply with an order to be clear about models wearing fake lashes.
No word on the excessive Photoshopping and retouching cosmetic companies are so known for using.

Isn’t this obvious for any make-up commercial?!?!
July 25th, 2007 at 6:43 am
Honestly…if you didn’t realize those lashes were fake when catching the advert, you’re a bit of an idiot. I don’t see how it’s any different than the fact that the cosmetics advertised are almost never the ones actually used - the make-up artist will use whatever is on hand, usually MAC or the like.

While L’Oreal is at it they can also explain why Beyonce’s lace-front wig wearing ass is doing hair commercials…

I know when we had a shampoo client, we had to be very careful in the models we used, we couldn’t use extensions or anything fake in the commercials. Funny how cosmetics companies get away with it all the time.

nothing is real in advertising. especially make-up ads. there are laws to protect the consumer, but they don’t seem to matter much. as greg brady learned: caveat emptor.

ofcpurse it’s fake.
it’s so fake it can’t fool us.

Ummm, what makeup advertisment does not have photoshop and false lashes? They all do! Why is this anything new?

the fact that the cosmetics advertised are almost never the ones actually used - the make-up artist will use whatever is on hand, usually MAC or the like.
Is that true? Wow!
I just noticed a mascara campaign that Jessica Alba was doing, can’t remember for what brand, and was wondering if those eyelashes were for real. Guess I have my answer!

there are people that really believe makeup advertising? they deserve to pay $40 for mascara!
(i hope this doesn’t come up twice- i got a ‘posting too fast’ message and i havent posted for half an hour!)
July 25th, 2007 at 7:17 am
Oh please, they do that with EVERY mascara commercial, no mascara makes your eyelashes look THAT full.
July 25th, 2007 at 7:25 am
it’s all buulshit- all mascara ads are fake lashes.
July 25th, 2007 at 7:34 am
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Everybody that believes they were real is a idiot.
July 25th, 2007 at 7:52 am
i always hate the ads for hair relaxers — the women are always weaved up in those!
July 25th, 2007 at 7:53 am
Yup, all fake! I recently went to a MAC makeup session and had fake lashes put on me. I looked like a model in a mascara commercial. It all made sense to me, like duh.
July 25th, 2007 at 8:02 am
OBVIOUSLY its fake. We’re not idiots. WHoever complained about this needs a hobby fast or some anti-depressants or something to shut them up.
My only problem was with Penelope’s accent in this, its really thick because she’s purposefully NOT trying to make it obvious and everything seems forced and wooden. I don’t see how she’s ever a good actress. Why didn’t she just let it be and she’d have sounded sexy and foreign?

DUHHHHHH!

This is why I like Europe. I was thinking the same thing when I saw this commercial.
“Aren’t these lashes a little over-done & fake?”
July 25th, 2007 at 9:23 am
i never really thought about it, but i must say loreal is my favorite mascara…voluminous doesn’t get clumpy and lashes look super long. (and they dont’ test on animals). but more importantly, why is everyone OK with false advertising? why blame the consumer when it’s the corporation that’s at fault?? we’ve come to a place where “oh, well, you’re dumb if you believe that” instead of making the companies accountable! :O(
July 25th, 2007 at 9:42 am
people believe it because they want to - even when they should know better. same goes with “look 10 years younger with this 500€ cream” or “eat this pill and lose weight while sitting on your ass and eating all you can”.
July 25th, 2007 at 10:33 am
SHOCK advertisers lie…..who would have thought
July 27th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Duh I think we know those lashes are not real. Funny, I just showed my husband that photo a few weeks ago and said to him “Bullshit. These are not real lashes. Why do they do this. Stupid women out there probably think they are real.”
July 31st, 2007 at 6:33 am
I’ve always been annoyed by this! It’s obvious that they are wearing falsies and that the women are wearing makeup when they are cleansing their faces etc etc. It really is misleading and they should state on the bottom of the commercial if they model is wearing something that is allowing the product to look different than it will for the average person’s use.

WOW it’s amazing how dumb people are. Do yourself a favor and stop trying to look like Jessica Alba. Hell, Jessica Alba doesn’t even look like that!
