Some roles just don’t suit Natalie Portman. At the junket for the film version of his “Doubt,” playwright John Patrick Shanley was asked how Amy Adams won the role of an emotionally conflicted nun. “I’m trying to think of what the etiquette is on this,” Shanley chuckled, blushing a bit. Urged on by a blogger, he continued, “Well, we asked Natalie Portman, and Natalie was very interested but kept saying she had a problem. And we finally nailed down as to what the problem was. She basically said she didn’t understand celibacy.”
Hmm….we’d love to not understand celibacy with Natalie!!!

Such a stupid statement from a such a smart woman. What’s not to understand about celebrity. What is she some kind of a whore? She can’t live without a man’s penis tearing apart her vagina for an extended period of time? I’m starting to think she’s a dumb bitch like Paris Hilton. Nice.
i thought she was smart. does she not understand the concept of celibacy or not understand what it is in general? like the definition of it?
I think she’s talking about celibacy in the context of being able to take a life’s vow of never having sex. I don’t think she was referring to celibacy in terms of occassional dry spells.
She graduated from Harvard, that doesn’t make her a genius. It’s obvious she doesn’t get acting, yet,she keeps subjecting her fans to one bad performance after another.
That makes her sound really dumb. I hope it WAS massively taken out of context.
umm, I going to go out on a limb here and say that when you play a nun in a movie, you don’t actually have to be a nun or live your life by the same rules.
If natalie is that much of a method actor, I shudder to think how she acted in her personal life when she played a child-assassin or a royal senator from naboo.
It goes to show, what good PR team does for ones image, she is presented as this super smart and savy actress when in fact its all behing the scene people who know how to promote her talent.
Heard many times how nasty she can be, i am sure that guy is getting tons of hateful messages from her camp.

Celibacy is a challenge to understand, but it’s not insurmountable. I’ve been a Catholic nun for about 10 years now and it’s something to deal with, but it’s definitely possible! Do check out my response for Natalie on my blog ANunsLife.org.
