So, when interracial marriage was legalized (through the courts), you think it should have been okay for the 90% of the population that opposed interracial marriage to be able to make it illegal with a simple majority vote?
The Constitution exists to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority. It is simply unconstitutional that a simple majority can vote to strip away existing civil rights (as determined by the State Constitution and the State Supreme Court) like this. It’s outrageous. It’s un-American.
The court spoke months ago… why didn’t you respect the courts and the law and the Constitution, and that decision then? Huh?
This has nothing to do with religion. The “Yes on 8″ people were spreading all sorts of lies, distortions, and smears. No church would have ever been forced to perform a same-sex union unless it chose to. This was about getting a marriage license down at city hall… the same way two atheists can right now. This is about equal civil rights, equal responsibility, and equal opportunity, under the law.
The people who voted to strip gay people of their rights will be looked back upon by history with contempt, the way we look back on those who fought against abolishing Jim Crow, or who fought against interracial marriage, or who fought against giving women the right to vote… The people who voted “yes” on Prop 8, and who continue to crow about it now, should be ashamed of themselves. And regardless, they will ultimately lose. They are on the wrong side of history.
Who would’ve thought Chuck Norris would have the most rational quote on record regarding Prop 8.
Homosexuals had a much more effective and compelling case when they argued that people should stay out of their bedrooms. Now that’s no longer enough and 2% of the population is insisting that everyone else be forced to acknowledge their lifestyle by changing their own definition of marriage—a far less convincing argument for the majority of people as evidenced by the election results. But of course, rather than work within the democratic system, gay activists are now burning books on the steps of Mormon temples (a favorite technique of the Nazis) and sending simulated anthrax to churches. I’m sorry, exactly who are the intolerant here again?
