After forking over $3000 for the most adorable Yorkie pup, the Humane Society of the United States has sent out a missive saying it is “extremely concerned” that the troubled songstress bought a dog from a pet store and seemed to take only 30 minutes to make the big decision.
“Ms. Spears is setting a damaging example to the public,” says Stephanie Shain, HSUS director of outreach for companion animals. “Most dogs sold in pet stores come from puppy mills — factory-like facilities, churning out purebred and ‘designer’ puppies in large numbers.”
What’s more? The HSUS is “concerned that Ms. Spears took little time to choose the right dog.” She explains, “Choosing a dog is a major lifestyle decision that should not be taken lightly.”
The HSUS has now sent out an offer to look at Britney’s dog’s papers to ensure everything is legit.

i saw a family walking into the pet store over the weekend and my first thought was “i hope they don’t buy a puppy from here!” stores are the WORST place to buy a pet. they are almost always sickly and have been traumatized from a very young age.
that being said, there’s no “controversy” to this story….they just picked a high profile person to piggy back their cause off of. :OP
this is bullshit…..people take shit too damn far.
It is sad that people spend so much for a pet (hundreds or thousands of dollars!!!!) when they are ones in the shelters that will be killed if they are not adopted. It’s all about status with these people. And you are right Lolly about the pet stores, i’ve heard they are the worst with animals. Sad.
Okay, I know Britney is batshit crazy, but this is a little ridiculous. Just friggin leave her alone with some things. Yeah I would have rather her gotten the puppy from a shelter, but sometimes puppies in stores are just as neglected and need to be saved.

I think Britney looks pretty good here actually and her little puppy is just 100% adorable…but I would say that because its the same breed as one of my puppies. I don’t really think that she would ever not look after an animal though. Even if she was busy doing something else there would always be a PA or minder that would make sure the dog was looked after. I agree with you Aiden that Britney needs a bit of a break….I mean first she can’t look after her kids and now dogs!!??

argh, i wish they would have picked another celeb to piggy back off of; maybe katherine mcphee would have been a better choice; now everyone just rolls their eyes thinking they are just out to get Britney instead of bringing light to a serious cause :O(
britney has her problems, specifically the outfit she is wearing in these pics, but i think that her current lack-of-career will give her enough time to look after a dog the size of an ipod. they must also keep in mind that she is a woman of priveleged means and if a time comes that she cannot care for the thing, a small staff can be hired to maintain the lifestyle to which it will soon become accustomed.

Instead of picking on her they should be lobbying their congressman to get some kind of regulation on dog breeding / pet stores. What do you think almost everyone who buys from a pet store does? Do you honestly think they research their purchase? No way, they’re mostly impulse buys. That’s why you only see puppies there!
While I think what the HS said is totally spot on, they have to remember who they are dealing with. Britney took more time choosing the puppy than she did deciding to have kids….
Yes she has money and can pay someone to take care of the puppy but remember several of Parasite Hiltons dogs have been hit by cars because they run loose in the street and she doesn’t give a damn. Money won’t save the puppies…
