It was another sparring match over at The View today.
Today’s topic? How to recognize Veterans Day. In one corner? Joy Behar. In the other, Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Joy kicked off the Hot Topics segment by reading facts about the war, including the number of dead American soldiers (over 4000), the daily cost, etc.
The loudmouth comedian could barely get her words out before Elisabeth rebuked: “Do not complain about the war today!!”
Resident voice of reason Whoopi Goldberg attempted to interject, but was instantly overpowered by Joy and Elisabeth.
While an enraged Elisabeth insisted: “It is not our day to gripe about the cost,” Joy argued, “We are honoring them by discussing this war.”
With all her arguments down the drain, Elisabeth then threw out her trump card, saying she knew people fighting in the war and knew they would not want the ladies talking war cost.
As ridiculousness reached a climax, Whoopi cut the whole thing off for good, saying: “We’re moving on!!!”
Thankfully, the often ill-informed Sherri Shepherd kept her trap shut the entire time.

If Elizabeth has friends that are over there.. why not honor them… for protecting the U.S.. Why is Joy complaining about the war when it is a fact that OVER 4 thousand troops are dead..WHY NOT HONOR THEM..What is wrong with that..?? It is not complaining it is the truth..IT IS TIME THE TROOPS GOT THEIR
OWN TRIBUTE.. THE OVER 4,OOO THAT DIED…
I didn’t agree or disagree with either. I wish just once they both could discuss without getting combative with their differing opinions. I’m a military kid, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, friend and I get what each host tried to say, and I just wish Joy & Elisabeth would understand that they can agree to disagree sometimes.
At the end of the day no war has been a positive! Let’s hope we all move forward to a more reasonable method of conflict resolution.
For once Elizabeth is right. This is the one day a year to simply honor our soldiers. It is not a day to politisize the issue.
I wonder if it’s true that they don’t fight behind the scenes. They get pretty heated to just say “it’s over” the minute the cameras stop rolling.
Liberals have no decency. Veteran’s Day is a time to honor soldiers past and present, not to politicize the war.
Get real! If the troops came home and could get adequate health care, mental and physical, find a job, pay their bills, then maybe we could have a Veteran’s day where we do nothing but hold hands and sing. The fact is that veterans have always been treated horribly, and even worse under George Bush. Veteran’s day is the perfect time to speak out about evils of an unjust war that they shouldn’t have been a part of in the first place.
You nailed it, Luella!
7….Thanks for proving my point Luella. No decency whatsoever. It’s liberals like yourself, with your inability to distinguish between the troops and the politics of war, that demonized and disrespected soldiers returning from Vietnam. Sadly, 30 years later, liberals still haven’t learned to distinguish between the two. Again, Veteran’s Day is a time to honor the troops for their sacrifice and service, not to score cheap political points.
Thank you #9. Luella, for at least one day put aside your hyper-partisan rancor and show some respect for the soldiers that fight and die to afford you the freedoms you so regularly abuse. Feel free to respond with all your typical insults and irrational bigotry. I won’t be returning to this post to read it.
Luella, said perfectly. That would be the best way to honor soldiers by taking care of them when they return and only sending them out when all other means have been exhausted. Sad that some people think paying lip service while ignoring real problems the soldiers face is honoring them. So easy to pay lip service when you are in the comfort of your home. ‘So easy for grown-up children to so carelessly play games with the lives and safety of our men and women. Here’s to every veteran, current and past, being taken care of as it’s the least we can do.
