Birthday boy (he turns 34 today) Joaquin Phoenix made a shocking announcement at last night’s Paul Newman benefit — he is quitting acting!
He tells TV’s Extra: “I want to take this opportunity…to give you the exclusive … that this will be my last performance as an actor… I’m not doing films anymore.”
When pressed to find out whether or not he was really serious, Joaquin, who was being followed by his own camera crews, reiterated, “Yeah. I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.”
Then Extra’s Jerry Penacoli turned to Casey Affleck and said, “I take it that he’s kidding?” Affleck responded, “I don’t think he’s kidding. He’s got music and stuff.”
It should be noted that according to his IMDB profile, Joaquin has an upcoming movie called Two Lovers coming out next year, but nothing else listed.

This does not surprise me..The family are totally eccentric, plus I remember reading about them years ago performing music and stuff while they were in the commune/cult…
i think he’s a great actor. i believe he’s quitting… but doubt that it’s forever. years later he’ll do a film again if it really interests him. we’ll see where his music takes him.
One if the best actors in his generation without a doubt!! He was incredible in Gladitor!!
Well if he feels like heis heart’s not in acting anymore then fair enough. I think he is an amazing actor though, everything I’ve seen him in I’ve thought he was amazing. Good luck to him with his music I guess, although I will miss him on the big screen!
This is such sad news!!!!! He is one of my all-time favourite actors. I really wanted to see him win an Oscar
Poor thing. He is such a mess.
Damn, I think he’s a great actor, too.
Too bad! I think he’s such a fantastic actor.
He was SO HOT in “I Walk the Line.” And now look at him.
Scruffy, scuzzy, and scummy. Just another Vincent Gallo lookalike.
This is kind of shocking! What is he planning on doing next?
