Mourners gathered for a candlelight vigil last night outside the home of Jennifer Hudson’s family in Chicago.
We will soon hear the story behind the tragic murders of Jennifer’s mother, brother and nephew, as police piece together what happened.
Meanwhile, pop music columnist Mark Caro is opening up about J.Hud and seeing first-hand how important family is to the Oscar-winning star.
Here is what he had to say:
Hudson comes across as a real sweetheart, an impression confirmed by those close to her and what I observed over a generous amount of time she let me spend with her. She was unfailingly warm, spontaneous and good-humored, and you could tell by the way she talked about her family and interacted with them that she had a happy, supportive home life.You also could tell from her family members that the affection was mutual. I still remember Julia, the mother of 7-year-old Julian King, watching Jennifer gleefully chatting with reporters and fans in the basement of the South Side church where the Oscar nominee was about to sing in an “Evening of Praise†just days before she collected her Oscar. “She’s the same Jennifer,†Julia, a spirited personality in her own right, said with an older sister’s pride.
Family members and friends said Jennifer doted on young Julian, which isn’t at all surprising. She exuded such joy and childlike enthusiasm that of course she related to kids. Her actress friend Felicia Fields told me that Julian was Jennifer’s “heart.â€

I can’t express my deep grief for the Hudson family as well as I’d like but all of my prayers are with them!

So sad. It’s nice to see the community rallying around the family, but maybe they need a little space right now? My prayers go out to them and I hope the nail the bastard that did this unforgivable act.
The only thing that is sad is that this is all Julia’s fault.. Why was her ex husband there?? He looks like a
sixteen year old kid..I don’t have any grief for anyone that would let this happen .. Isn’t it convient that Julia
wasn’t there when it happened..?? It makes you think something else is going on..

Poor Jennifer. I feel so sorry for her and Julian’s biological father. I hope William Balfour gets the death penalty. People who murder children deserve to burn in hell. Shame on Julia for bringing this violent convict into her family’s lives. Her obsession with “good dick” surpassed her love for her child. She sacrificed her baby boy for this scum bag killer.
