WHEN ADS GO TOO FAR?

junkie-sisley.bmp

Does this ad suck or just blow?

Sisley, the naughty younger sister of Benetton, has done it once again. Clothing that’s so addictive, it’s like drugs. Genius! (Ok, not really…)

Now can someone please tell me whether f-a-s-h-i-o-i-n is a misspelling or merely an off-the-mark take on heroin?

Now, how is this going to far and Becks & Posh doing whatever in a dive hotel is praised? I’m too old!

  3. July-11-2007 @ 1:42 pm

    WTF is this? what magazine?

  4. July-11-2007 @ 1:44 pm

but Barks, we are used to see racy photos of half nekid people, we are NOT used to seeing blatant drug use references. my first reaction is this def goes too far. but of course i’ll keep an open mind depending on the surrounding circumstances…

I find this totally disturbing, definitely going too far no matter what the circumstance is. Imagine what impact it will have on our next generation.

I agree with Barks, drugs or sex what difference does it make? It’s all explotation. These are the same type of ads that Kate Moss did for Calvin Klein in the 90’s promoting heroin chic. Drugs and sex sells. Sistley’s sales will probably skyrocket.

I agree Barks. Posh and Becks are pratically naked and dry humping those photos and everyone thinks it is so hot. This pic is kinda funny actually. Whoever came up with it is pretty creative.

love it - it’s called ‘advertising’ … if it gets people talking then they are succeeding in their advertising - hardly rocket science

  16. anonymous
    July-11-2007 @ 3:03 pm

    It’s pathetic.

  17. OMG Really???
    July-11-2007 @ 3:12 pm

It gets everybody talking and that’s what they want. I think it’s marketing at it’s best.

  18. NARC
    July-11-2007 @ 3:45 pm

THIS IS A RIP OFF OF A DAVID LACHAPPELLE PHOTO THAT FEATURED A MODEL BLOWING LINES OF DIAMONDS.

THERE IS NOTHING ORIGINAL ABOUT THIS - IT IS A SAD ATTEMPT TO CREATE PUBLICITY THROUGH MINDLESS CONTROVERSY.

  19. NARC
    July-11-2007 @ 3:47 pm

AND NO, AS SOMEONE WHO WORKS IN THE FIELD I DO’NNT THINK THIS IS MARKETING AT ITS FINEST - IT IS A CHEAP AND UNINSPIRED ATTEMTP TO GET PEOPLE TALKING.

IT’S A HACK JOB, NOTHING MORE.

  20. NARC
    July-11-2007 @ 3:48 pm

GEEZ THERE ARE ALOT OF MISCONCEPTIONS HERE.

SUCCESS ISN’T MEASURED BY THE AMOUNT OF TALK A CAMPAIGN CREATES - IT’S MEASURED BY THE AMOUNT OF *MONEY* IT MAKES.

THIS WILL BE A FLOP - THE ADS WILL LIKELY GET PULLED. I GUARANTEE YOU THE NEWS STORIES OF THE ADS BEING PULLED WILL = MORE DOLLARS FOR THE COMPANY THAN THE ADS GENERATE THEMSELVES.

hey NARC chill out dude. we didnt make the damn ad

  23. dansaul_knight
    July-11-2007 @ 5:17 pm

Sex and durgs are two completely different things. Sex is a natural thing in which few people are hurt. However, drugs are illegal and most people are hurt. So obviously, I disagree with my2cents and Barks.

  24. July-11-2007 @ 5:24 pm

NARC always writes in caps, people! it’s his “thing” (or her, but i think you are a boy, right?) i think as we get into adulthood and think about what we want our children (or nieces, nephews) exposed to, then we decide what goes too far….this goes too far.

  25. July-11-2007 @ 5:25 pm

and the fashioin is definitely a play on fashion/heroine. i agree with NARC.

i’d like it if it wasn’t for the purple dress girl’s face. overall it’s kinda clever in an off way, but her face pushes the ad towards gross.

    Disturbing. They’ve gone too far

  30. July-11-2007 @ 6:00 pm

EAT IT, the purple dress girls face is part of why i think it goes too far, she looks completely strung out.

  31. hello
    July-11-2007 @ 6:04 pm

I tend to agree with Narc. I don’t think this will work in the company’s favor. What kind of magazine will publish this, and what kind of city would keep this up on a billboard??

    July-11-2007 @ 6:35 pm

This is what their customer aspires to be, so I say go for it.
    They’re such losers.

Kate Moss would have been perfect for this campaign.

  36. July-11-2007 @ 9:49 pm

Omg the girl in the purple dress looks like shit

  37. July-12-2007 @ 3:18 am

oh my….this ad wants to shock but it s just a pathetic try to do so

This is an awful ad! They spelled Fashion wrong. The girl in the black’s nipple is clearly showing. It’s totally pro-drugs! WTF?

    July-12-2007 @ 9:22 am

So, so tasteless!!! There is NOTHING glamourous or fashionable about addiction or drugs! Sisley is adding to a much larger problem in this country… excess, selfishness and out of control consumerism!!! WAY TO GO

  43. amie
    July-12-2007 @ 9:25 am

    GOOD JOB, SISLEY… THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

  44. July-12-2007 @ 12:33 pm

I agree with dude-with-diablo. My sister is at the age in which she is striving to be considered cool. I’d be afriad for her to see this.

I think it’s clever and reflects the reality that alot of us do not want to acknowledge. The truth is that addiction exists out there more than ever before and exists in many different forms. This is just a smart take on a HUGE problem. However, if this is being marketed toward a younger audience, ex: putting it in seventeen magazine where most of the readers are young (teens/preteens etc.) then I disagree with its use. It’s not about the add it’s about the audience and their ability to interpret and draw conclusions.

…oh…another example the Rammstein music video for Sonne where Snow White snort lines of gold and also injects it.

too weird. i know what they’re trying to do, but it’s not very effective. i’d go out of my way to avoid their products
