THE REVIEWS ARE IN!

Reviews for Katie Holmes in All My Sons are in and it appears she’s not terrible. But she’s no Anne Bancroft either.

Of the just released reviews, co-stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson are greatly raised. Even director Simon McBurney gets some props. As for Katie? Well, here’s a sampling of what’s being said about her performance:

Newsday: “She’s is earnest and pretty, like a talented girl in a school play.”

Chicago Tribune : “You can’t take your eyes off her.”

The New York Times: “Ms. Holmes delivers most of her lines with meaningful asperity, italicizing every word.”

Entertainment Weekly: “After a painfully awkward first scene, she relaxes a bit…”

Daily News: “Holmes, a TV and film vet, makes a fine Broadway debut. Her rather grand speech pattern takes getting used to, but she seems comfortable and adds a fitting glint of glamour.”

Variety: “She handles her role … with neither distinction nor embarrassment.”

Well the reviews are definitely not great but also not too bad!!! Happy for her though that she has gone through the whole opening night thing!

She appears very awkward as an actress to me so considering, the reviews are good for her!

THE REVIEWS ARE O.K.. BUT WHERE IS THE REST OF THE CAST…
AGAIN JUST HER.. NO REVIEWS ON THE REST OF THE CAST…

Her beauty seems to be the one thing that all the critics talk about.. So what happened to Jada Pinka Smith.. who boldly announced that she and Will will
be there opening night?? and where is the scene stealer Tom..??

“she’s is earnest and pretty…” -is that your bad grammar or is that really how it was printed in the article?

The reality is that Broadway shows are either hits or flops based on only one review, and that’s The New York Times review. It doesn’t matter what all the other reviews say, a show will close if TNYT review sucks. So this one’s a bit tricky because it likes the two men in the play, but does not really think Katie Holmes or Diane Weist’s performances are all that great. It will probably stay open a while. And they will use the excuse that it was only a limited run anyway to save face from slow ticket sales.
