Uh-oh — Avril Lavigne is not taking recent palagarism accusations sitting down.
As you may recall, fellow Canadian chanteuse Chantal Kreviazuk laughed off Avril’s writing skills, telling the current issue of Performing Songwriter magazine, “I mean, Avril, a songwriter? Avril doesn’t really sit and write songs by herself or anything. Avril will also cross the ethical line, and no one says anything. That’s why I’ll never work with her again. I sent her a song two years ago called ‘Contagious’ and I just saw the track listing to this album and there’s a song called ‘Contagious’ on it - and my name’s not on it. What do you do with that?”
Well, now Avril has taken to her website with fists a-blazin’: “Chantal’s comments are damaging to my reputation and a clear defamation of my character and I am considering taking legal action.”
Avril says this is nothing but a case of sour grapes resulting from unsuccessful songwriting collaborations between the two.
“My decision to discontinue working with Chantal after co-writing together on my second record was simply based on the fact that we had no hits together. That is why her name is not on this record, despite her numerous attempts to be included, which were always denied. From my perspective, this is a clear case of bitterness.”
What’s more? Avril says Chantal even shot her apology email after the story broke to say sorry for her suggestion that the song ‘Contagious’ was hers.
“I forgive her but I have to put the truth out there so my fans are not confused by these false accusations.”

Chantal cowrote Kelly Clarkson’s Walk Away recently among many other hits and was successful earlier as recording artist (Hey even I know who she is for years and I’m from Hungary!)
Girlfriend is the worst song of this year, no matter how many languages she could read/sing the refrain fonetically. It’ll still suck, the rest of the album suck and Avril, your best album was Under My Skin with Chantal.
Must be hard to realize she degraded this much. Avril’s not a good writer definitely and she’s a selfish a**hole.

Chantal is a real songwriter. Avril had a chance of respect until the last album. Her sugary songs got even more vacuuous. Have you heard her in an interview? She doesn’t seem to be able to carry a decent conversation. How on earth is someone like that supposed to write moving lyrics? “Girfriend” may be a hit but that says a lot about the buyers and writer, and that other video “When your gone”, is nothing but formulaic in so many levels.

i like chantal. the song “say goodnight, not goodbye” is a good one of hers.i hate avril, although this story confuses me. is it just the title that was stolen? or the song actually the same? or similar? because if it’s just a title, it’s a pretty stupid thing to be upset over.

Fang-tooth Avril is currently being sued by a band for stealing their song and turning it into Girlfriend. YouTube has a side by side comparision of the two songs. Maybe everyone should check that out before they choose teams. I vote Chantal.

I used to respect her as a person, but when she spat on the paps, that was wrong! She had the balls to say on The View that she did that before to the paps and they *shudder* liked it. Wtf! Liked it!?? I think she is very unprofessional and undisciplined as a person. She’s more disciplined as a performer. I only respect her as an entertainer now, I guess.
