Leave it up to Valentino Garavani to enlist some of Hollywood’s most fashionable A-listers, including Uma Thurman, Claire Danes and Sarah Jessica Parker, to show up at an exclusive soiree in Rome celebrating the 75-year-old Italian designer’s 45th year of working in the fashion world.
A museum retrospective, ‘Valentino a Roma: 45 Years of Style,’ at the Ara Pacis Museum opened today.
On Saturday, Valentino’s latest haute couture line will make its debut at Santo Spirito. The extravaganza culminates in a star-studded party, attracting a who’s who of New York and Hollywood.
And if you believe the rumours, the anniversary extravaganza is Valentino’s swan song, the last hurrah before he announces his retirement.

Hope this dispells the myth that SJ is a fashion icon - there’s something about this dress on her that looks rediculous. I have, however, bought some of her clothing line (”Bitten”) - they’re basic pieces for DIRT cheap that wear well - that’s about all I can say for her fashion sense. She just tries too hard.

One crappy dress does not topple a fashion icon from her pedestal. Everyone is allowed a mistake or two, especially since SJ was probably *asked* to wear that gown. If you want to keep the loaner and freebie gowns coming, you’ve got to suck it up and wear the ones you don’t particularly care for.
That said, that gown’s material looks EXACTLY like a slipcover I had on an old sofa. And this was back in the early 90’s.

^ That’s the thing, celebs actually do have a choice within the fashion line of the designer whose asking you to wear their dresses (pretty sure she could’ve chosen another dress from the designer). I think her fashion empire started to crumble looong ago (she’s been dressing like shit for a while now). I think people started to realize that it was the Wardrobe Department on Sex and the City (not SJP) who picked out those “fabulous” looks she wore on the show. Still, even if they put a gun to her head and told her that she had better wear that dress or get shot, she should’ve taken the bullet. Slipcover for sure!

Yeah i definitely think she has choice of what dress to wear. I never thought she was a fashion icon….the only time she ever dressed nice was on SATC and she was DRESSED by the team on that show. so whatever, she is blah to me. Hey supernova- where did you find her line at? I’s like to look at some of the stuff.

SJP could wear a burlap sack and still make it look fashionable because she knows how to work it. I guess this dress isn’t too far from said sack, but she looks alright in it.

The pieces are clean, simple, basic stuff you can dress up or dress down, mix and match, etc. - good quality but NOTHING is over twenty bucks! Loves it.
Hey bubba - now that you mention it, her dress reminds me of the burlap sack Lucille Ball wore in that famous episode of “I Love Lucy” (everyone was like - ugh, you’re wearing a burlap sack bitch - but she rocked it like it was high fashion - lol).

^^Lol!!! You and a whole lot of other people thinks he’s gay. coco - I think her line is expanding cross country soon (and you’ll be able to buy stuff from the website soon too - so I hear). She’d be crazy not to expand it to other markets!
