Snuggled between beau Stedman Graham and BFF Gayle King, talk show maven Oprah was among stars at the moving opening of the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta over the weekend.
Fireworks kicked off Saturday night’s festivities as Sidney Poitier, Louis Gossett Jr., Will Smith and others visited the first major studio owned by an African-American.
Legendary 74-year-old old actress Cicely Tyson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “I never dreamed I would witness this in my lifetime. What I’ve been able to achieve in my career is minuscule in comparison.”
The evening was so emotional that Oprah broke out into the ugly cry.

I love how Oprah and Gayle are watching the same thing but Gayle is laughing while Oprah is breaking down into tears. What a drama queen Oprah is!
Tyler who ?????
HAha I agree steeveedee.
If you look at the picture closely, you’ll see that Tyler is crying as well.
Also, if you look at other sites, you’ll see that Lady O and Tyler weren’t the only ones crying… it’s pretty historic and pretty significant that Tyler Perry is the first black man to own a successful movie studio. In my opinion, their crying is justified.
Why are they so proud that one African-American man has his own studio?
I would be ashamed that more didn’t.
It can obviously happen if you have enough talent.
I think that Tyler Perry’s achievement is incredible considering where he came from and that unlike a lot of people in Hollywood, he didn’t have family money or ties to powerful people. And Grimmer, why should black people be “ashamed”? It is an amazing accomplishment for anyone considering that he’s in his early forties and has achieved so much with his talent. It’s a shame that you feel the need to racialize it and make it a negative thing.
#4 and #6………..I hear ya and agree. Some just don’t/won’t get the signifigance of it all and how obvious talent has never been the sole requirement needed for everyone “no matter how much of it you have.” If that were the case Tyler’s acomplisment wouldn’t even have made the news.
@ Steveedee, Stop hating. Tyler Terry is Oprah’s boy and it’s okay if she breaks into tears of joy. Guess it’s difficult for you understand because of your minimal success. I will do likewise unashamed of critics like you who are looking for opportunity dabble into mockery. This is an outstanding feat and I am proud of the dude.
oprah seems a bit unstable these days
Damn…Oprah was looking great. What happened to her?
…..Gayle and Oprah sittin’ in a tree…
K_i_s_s_i_n_g……
Those two are joined at the vagina…..
and what the H_E_double hockey sticks is Oprah wearing…she is worth a bi-jillion dollars and the best the could come up with is a unitard- a pair of spanx and a frumpy pup tent skirt…..lots of money… ZERO taste.
Tooks….You are so right.
I think it is ridiculous that people black, white, hispanics, asians or whatever group have developed so much hate in their heart. This wonderful black man have MADE it and we have people in the world that because they can’t join him refuse to be happy for him. Well I’m sure Tyler will not miss a pay check because of the HATERS. It is HISTORY being made in 2008 for all Americans first TYLER PERRY next BARACK OBAMA. Don’t get made the time for change have come and the change is now in 2008. Continued BLESSINGS for TYLER PERRY.
Jesus Christ is Oprah FAT again!!
No blaming this on your “thyroid” problem honey. YOU CAN’T STOP EATING!!!!!!!
Congrats to Perry, even if his movies are one-dimensional crap peddled at the black market only. They’re lapping it up!
Positive person….what are you going to do when Obama does NOT get voted in?
Pulease…Give it up already!
Quit turning everything into a “black thang”.
I can’t stand Oprah anymore. Despite being all for women’s rights with her show, has shown herself to be quite the hypocrite with her actions. Her crush on him from a couple years ago is the ONLY reason anyone knows who Obama is since his record can’t exactly speak for itself.
God is great, and greatly to be praised! This is soo awesome we are breaking down barriors in everyway and so of COURSE there will be some haters who gives a hoot! People express their joy in DIFFERENT ways and so both expressions are ok. The word says laugh with those that laugh, and cry with those that cry etc. If you are a coldhearted person, then it’s understandable that you just would not get it. You’ve got to have LOVE in your heart to be able to FEEL someone’s joy, pain, etc IT’s called the ability to empathize and it’s one of the qualitys that makes you human
Ehh #1 note the WHITE lady in the back on the verge of tears. Is she a drama queen as well? What would bring you to shed tears of joy? Have you ever? probably not you cold bitch.
Oprah it may be time to consider the gastric bypass
This man used to be HOMELESS. He is proof that you can do absolutely anything that you put your mind to. And for a black man to own a major film/tv studio is B-I-G….period.

Dear Mr Perry.
I am happy for your achievements. All who dream, dreams will come through. I am from the caribbean, i do not understand about movie studio. May be you can tell me about it. I am currently homeless just as you are. It am on the streets, i wrote my first book. Honor’ Wisdom Singh With Joubert and Sandy. I have written 12 sounds. My Poetry Book continues. I have written three plays. They are not for sale but up for my production.
My story coming to America is very interesting and every one story in life is interesting, they just do not know it. Their life is such a great testimony, they cannot see the space in the space to record it. I will record my in the space provided.
If i do not hear from you again, congratulations on a man to have arrived their first. It is indeed a major accomplishment. May the God of heaven and earth be with you continually.

Wow! I can’t believe how hateful people can be when they don’t think anyone can see their face! Tyler Perry Movies are for a very specific market. Not everyone can like them. First of all they seem to be all about Tyler Perry. How he see things and how he relates to life as a Black Woman.
It is hard to get a film made, let alone to the big screen. He has accomplished a lot and deserves a big party. Take this opening in a grain of salt. (very small and salty) Don’t expect to see anything come out of this facility but more of his own films and tv shows for his specialty market. I don’t know whether to congratulate him or not as he already had one of these “studios” he just has more money and success and now he bought a bigger one? Does this mean there will be lots of room for Black inie film makers to get their films financed and made, via this new studio?
That would be exciting! I have not heard any talk about that, just about this poor boy who made it rich. Now he’s with the Beautiful people. Good for you Tyler. Good for you.
…and posters, don’t be so mean! He’s just a man. His films are really not that good. Because he is Black does not mean that he represents Black people. Because he is Black doesn’t mean White people are not allowed to see and like these films.
I seen almost all of his films. And they are all the same. Kinda interesting, a bit funny, but stereotypical, very talky and preachy and not “new”. Its good to see a different guy on the money block, but it would be nicer for some variety.
Still Hopeful
