Kate Winslet and her husband Sam Mendes were seen meeting some friends in New York City’s Times Square yesterday.

The reception was very warm as Kate and Sam embraced and smiled happily to see the group anxiously awaiting the actress and her director beau.

After exchaging hugs and kisses, the group headed to a hip NYC eatery where they feted Kate the Great.

Meanwhile, it appears there’s a more to celebrate than just a b’day. Kate is set to portray fashion designer Vivienne Westwood in an upcoming movie of her life.

Confirming the casting, a spokesperson for the British designer says, “The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne. It has been a long time in the planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening.”
