DREW CARES ABOUT BOYS AND THE ECONOMY

Drew Barrymore isn’t just in New York City to make out with barely-legal boys.

Here she is holding a red plastic cup that is part of a school feeding program by United Nations World Food Program at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) event today in New York.

Joined by former President Bill Clinton, Drew announced a commitment regarding the improvement of food and nutrition for schoolchildren in developing countries.

The World Food Programme made some commitments itself, including to increase by a million the number of meals provided to school children each day.

Given the fact that the current economic crisis can only increase the rising price of commodities, this was clearly welcome news.

Under Clinton, the entire federal government put massive pressure on banks to grant more mortgages to the poor and minorities. Clinton’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo, investigated Fannie Mae for racial discrimination and proposed that 50 percent of Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s portfolio be made up of loans to low- to moderate-income borrowers by the year 2001.
Threatening lawsuits, Clinton’s Federal Reserve demanded that banks treat welfare payments and unemployment benefits as valid income sources to qualify for a mortgage. That isn’t a joke — it’s a fact.
A decade later, the housing bubble burst and, as predicted, food-stamp-backed mortgages collapsed. Democrats set an affirmative action time-bomb and now it’s gone off.
In Bush’s first year in office, the White House chief economist, N. Gregory Mankiw, warned that the government’s “implicit subsidy” of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, combined with loans to unqualified borrowers, was creating a huge risk for the entire financial system.
Now, at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, middle-class taxpayers are going to be forced to bail out the Democrats’ two most important constituent groups: rich Wall Street bankers and welfare recipients.
Political correctness had already ruined education, sports, science and entertainment. But it took a Democratic president with a Democratic congress for political correctness to wreck the financial industry.

The irony in Senator Barack Obama’s comment about a president needing to be able to do two things at once passed without notice. It was more than an indirect put-down of McCain. It revealed the focus of Obama’s life — himself.
When asked about his intentions to attend Friday’s debate after McCain announced he was returning to Washington, Obama said:

“With respect to the debate it’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who is, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess,” Obama said. “I think it is going to be part of the president’s job to be able to deal with more than one thing at once.”

This urgency to debate oddly comes from a candidate who successfully dodged his opponent’s invitation for joint appearances all summer. But nevermind that, that’s not the irony.

The position that Obama once held as State Senator in Illinois is a part-time job. (A close relative of mine was once the secretary for one.) State Senators can hold other jobs to pay the mortgage. Obama was an attorney, a lecturer at a law school, and an autobiographer (someone who write about self).

U.S. Senator is a full-time job. Since elected in 2004, Obama worked full-time at that job for slightly less than five months. Then he hit the campaign trail where he’s been a full-time candidate working for himself ever since.

So, what two things has Obama been doing at once? The people of the State of Illinois hired him to represent them in the Senate, I assume. But he’s spent most of his time representing and promoting himself.

Somebody help me here: Where’s the multitasking in that?

Meanwhile, McCain put country before self, as has been his life’s pattern, and, at a critical time, chose to go back to the job he’s paid to do.

If Obama is elected president he’ll have no higher position for which to campaign. Well, except maybe Secretary General of the United Nations after his Global Poverty Act of 2007 passes and the U.N. has a pile of taxpayer money to spread around the globe.

Odd, I didn’t think the newly elected President of the USA would be sworn in to serve until January of 2009. Am I mistaken or is Obama? 40 days? If he wins, is he actually planning to take over the day after the election results are announced instead of waiting for President Bush’s term to expire. Am I misinterpreting his statement? Ashame they don’t teach government in school anymore.

A point to be made here, that I haven’t heard mentioned at all, is that If Obama is so efficient at multi-tasking, what exactly is he doing to address the financial crisis while still campaigning and prepping for the debate? I’ve heard a lot of rhetoric and seen a lot of finger pointing coming from his camp, but I haven’t heard one substantial word on what he suggests we do about it. He wouldn’t have even been at his desk doing the job that he was hired to do by his constituents if McCain hadn’t publicly called for Bush to set up a bipartisan meeting, INCLUDING himself and Obama, and if Bush hadn’t personally requested Obama be there. Or maybe Obama is so good that he could solve the crisis by phone in between rallies?

Obviously, there’s no need to actually BE in congress to be IN congress.

So much for Obama’s multi-tasking. And so much for anyone calling him out on his INCREDIBLY moronic and partisan comments.

There’s more: The president elect will NOT be dealing with the mess in 40 days, but rather, after the inauguration. Pres. Bush will be dealing with it until then. Also, Obama is acting as if he is already the president, “multitasking” while in reality, he is still a Senator. And McCain is essentially saying: “In my role as Senator, I will now focus all my attention on the demands of that job in light of the economy.”
Rather than practice for being president, as Obama wants to do, Mac is doing what his job entails for real.

Hey Be-rock, on that presidential thing we’ll call ya if we need ya, better yet I’ll have Brittney’s people get with your people. What i really want to know is about all these phone calls he’s making he said he called McCain in the a.m. McCains people say they got a message with not even a subject. He said he’s in constant contact with all the players, including Paulson twice yesterday. I wish someone would check this out, I thought Paulson was on the hill all day. So did he personally talk to Paulson or staff to staff, or is this just another overstatement the press will ignore.

The blame for this crisis is totally at the feet of the democrats. McCain tried to do something about the mismanagement of freddie and fannie in 2005. It was blocked by the dems. That is a point of fact. Deal with it.
