Lynne Spears is crying foul when it comes to the treatment her daughter faced in the days and months following the announcement of her pregnancy.
In a new interview with Newsweek, the celeb granny says the public had a “totally different reaction” to the teen pregnancies of her daughter Jamie Lynn and Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol.
Here are some highlights.
Lynne on the double standard she faced in the midst of her daughter’s pregnancy: “It’s as if [Sarah Palin] became celebrated. I mean, the mother, Palin, was celebrated for this. Every woman in the world has applauded her strength and her convictions and poor little old Jamie Lynn, you saw how she was crucified - everybody did, firsthand. I just feel like it’s been a very hypocritical situation.”Lynne on how she handled Jamie-Lynn’s pregnancy: “Do I promote teen sex? Of course not. Do I promote teen pregnancy? Needless to say, of course not. But when it happens, you deal with it and you do the best you can do. Jamie Lynn has done beautifully with what she’s done.”
Lynne on criticisms that her daughter glamorized teen pregnancy: “We don’t want this said, ’cause this would be glamorizing, but I will tell you a secret: her baby does sleep all night. What do you think about those apples? Maddie is the best baby I have ever seen. She is like a little angel. She’s so content. She laughs and she coos and ahead of herself with her stages. But of course we can’t tell that because then we would just glamorize it more.”
Lynne on any advice she could offer to the Palin family: “Everybody’s situation is different. I would never tell anybody else what to do with their child. I would never attempt to make them think I knew more about their child. Even if they were to ask, I would tell them dig deep, what do you think?”

Spears was crucified because her children are famous for not having any supervision and practically raising themselves. She was crucified because her older, wiser daughter was an out-of-control party animal who shot out two kids and promptly abandoned them. When Jamie Lynn became pregnant, it pretty much confirmed that the family was a mess and the kids grew up way too soon.
As for Palin, I am a conservative, but I’m concerned that her children also do not have appropriate supervision or boundaries. It’s been documented that Bristol is also a little wild child who stupidly poses for pictures while holding bottles of booze. She was also dating at a young age. No shocker that she started sleeping around a young age, too. Studies prove that kids with involved parents are far less likely to get into the kind of trouble JL and Bristol have experienced. And I can speak from experience, too, because my parents were not involved with my life much during the teen years and I sought attention in other highly inappropriate ways. I’m lucky I didn’t end up in their shoes.
She didn’t hesitate to whore her daughters out and now she’s crying? Whatever.
Lynn Spears is a whore and a shitty mother. Sara Palin is a whore, a shitty mother and a politician. Same difference.
I don’t really feel that they were treated any differently by the media. I thought they were both treated atrociously. I agree that Jamie Lynn has handled it very well and she seems very mature for her age and not someone who would try to glamourize her pregnancy at all. The reason why Bristol’s pregnancy was so shocking was because of her mother’s position on it all.
shut up woman and sit down a whole lot of girls got crucified for having baies young and unmarried now that its hitting main stream and is not so urban they want to squawk. tsk tsk! something else fo these scatter brain women to squawk about! rty being poor and having an baby out of wedlock they would probably kill the baby then!
No, she didn’t catch hell from the entire public. She caught it from the hypocrites who decided a lot of things were evil until Savour Sarah and her holy family came along and showed us that when life happens to them, it’s simply being human, but when it happens to others, it’s lack of parenting etc.
I think that the only people who reacted differently to Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy than the Palin girl are the conservative talking heads on television. They all blasted the Spears’ for bad parenting but when it happened ot Palin’s daughter they suddenly became compassionate and tolerant. People can say whatever they want, but when a child gets pregnant at a young age, someone didn’t do their job. Either you didn’t know what they were doing, you didn’t teach them what they needed to know, or you ignored what was going on in their lives. If one kid messes up, that may be unfortunate but when two are screw ups, it’s likely that the parents had something to do with it. And considering the rumors running around about why Palin’s son really joined the military, methinks the Palins were more concerned with power than in actually parenting their children. And Lynn, we all know what a train wreck she is as a parent and apparently she is still in denial about the crappy job she did as a parent.
I can’t even begin to imagine what she was reading or watching. CNN, NBC, ABC, ,CBS, US Weekly, etc. all jumped all over Sarah Palin for her daughter’s pregnancy. Anyone who missed that is living under a rock.
Republicans are perfect people..Didn’t Lynn know that
I think if the Spears family hadn’t sold their storty to OK magazine to “announce” her pregnancy it would’ve been different. They brought a lot of the attention on themselves. Meanwhile Bristol Palin has laid fairly low since her announcement. No posing for magazine covers to talk about her pregnancy etc.
Hmm..you can’t control what your teens are doing outside of the house. You can drive them to school, sit with them in their classes, eat lunch in the cafeteria with them, and drive them home at the end of the day. But while you are busy doing their homework, they are sneaking out the window of their bedroom and ignoring everything their mommas taught them to do what ever they freaking please. You can even buy them the condoms, and supply them with birth control for life, but they are still going to do what they do, and nothing you say or do is going to impact them until it is way too late.
Bristol’s treatment has just begun, I think their treatments will end up being similar, or even worse for bristol.
Yeah Sid… if Jamie Lynn hadn’t of posed for Ok Magazine and waited for the Republican National Commitee where her mom did it for her or posed with her family and had it further aired out in People Magazine that would have been better. Oh and her mom isn’t the vice president elect so really there isn’t a point.
Get the sarcasm… haha anyway.
Audrey I get your meaning too. I think people are too set on Lynne’s responsibilities they only go so far. Jamie Lynn was 16 yrs. old… are you telling me she couldn’t have been responsible enough to pick up a condom. Britney is older than 18 and has been so for awhile so the constant assumptions that someone should take fault for her when she’s a GROWN ASS WOMAN which the media has peppered consistantly is stupid. Furthermore, it’s alright to make dumb ass mistakes if you truly learn from them. Which in Britney’s case regardless of what people whom love her or hate her say (who are the dip-shits that came up with the name Slutney *commonly used on message boards to describe Britney* noted: for they’re moms thats what happens when you drink when pregnant you give birth to retards who can’t deliver a decent dis) seems to be happening. I just hope her handlers ease up and she keeps maintaining on her own to get her children back.
As for Palins daughter, Bristol I hate to agree with Lynne Spears, but I do think there’s some truth. Not a lot, but some. For instance I never heard anyone question whether Bristol’s boyfriend, Levi was the father and try to say 3 or 4 other guys might be (with little to no proof). Or constantly say he was cheating. I just heard wise cracks and occasional convo. on the right to choose and Palins positions even in the case of rape etc.
Everytime you turned around someone was defending her, but irronically there were quite a few conservatives in a tiff and there were those hard core (bush like people) who played politics like a softball game and stuck to the team regardless, because they had a game to win.
Oh and to conclde quite frankly I don’t think its anyone buisness to truly judge either or their parents. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “I wish there was a book to parenting, but there isn’t you just have to do the best with what your given. And hope your child grows up right and learn to forgive yourself, because your going to make mistakes nomatter how good a parent you are”
