A TOUCH OF CLASS

Old Hollywood (quite literally!) stepped out last night for the Metropolitan Opera’s 125th season opening night gala at the Lincoln Center Plaza in New York City.

The opening-night extravaganza did the previous broadcasts one better by adding a half-hour of red-carpet glamour before the curtain went up. The opera’s opening is traditionally a star-studded fashion showcase; this year’s audience included Barbara Walters, Martha Stewart and Helen Mirren.

At a cost of $1.5 million, last might marked the first time the Met’s glittering opening-night gala was beamed to distant fans by high-definition broadcast. The broadcast was part of a push to attract a younger, broader audience to a centuries-old art form with upper-crust connotations.

Judging by the many attendees below, it’s clear the initiative was a smashing success.

Helen Mirren looks really amazing for her age!! Barbara looks okay but the color of the dress is way too young for her. Martha?…. ah NO!!!

Molly Sims is pretty but always looks so boring, i wish she would do something new with her hair.

Babs looks wonderful in that color and I actually think Martha looks good in that gown. Molly Sims’ dress is gorgeous but it would be prettier in a color and ita with Miss, the hair is bad. Does Christy Brinkley ever age? She looks the same as she did 10 years ago. As far as Parker Posey - seriously, what the hell is that?

Who is dressing Martha these days. That gold bag she’s wearing looks hideous.
Come on Martha, you’re better than this!

Why is Barbara wearing a jeweled shirt collar around her neck?!?!?!?! The color of the dress on her is nice, though. I actually like Martha’s dress, too. I love Helen Mirren but that was not a good choice. She usually kills it.

These ole hags should NOT be standing next to the gorgeous Helen Mirren. I guess that’s why she has that coy smirk on her face. Babawaba always looks the same yawnnnn and Martha you were better off wearing the poncho your homie the inmate made while in the pokey.

Martha is such a gorgeous lady. She should’ve worn Helen’s outfit. I can’t stand Helen.

uHH- Sorry Amy martha could NOT wear what Helen is wearing she simply does not have the figure to pull it off that’s why she’s wearing a potato sack instead. Again, she should have worn the poncho and a pair of nice slacks.

    What are you talking about?!
Martha looks stunning and that color is fab with her complexion! Nice to see an american woman who isn’t afraid to wear a grown-up color.
