Denver officials tell the Associated Press the crowd inside the stadium tonight to watch Barack Obama accept the Demcratic party nomination is larger than your standard town.
The wire service reports that “more than 84 000 people have jammed into Invesco Field at Mile High stadium to hear Barack Obama’s historic acceptance speech.”
The stadium normally holds 76 125 people, but additional seats were reportedly placed on the football field where the Denver Broncos play.
One (of the many) highlights of Barack’s speech came when he took on one of Republican John McCain’s themes — that the Democrat is a “celebrity” who isn’t ready to lead the nation — by talking about his life and family:
“When I hear a woman talk about the difficulties of starting her own business or making her way in the world, I think about my grandmother, who worked her way up from the secretarial pool to middle-management, despite years of being passed over for promotions because she was a woman. She’s the one who taught me about hard work. She’s the one who put off buying a new car or a new dress for herself so that I could have a better life. She poured everything she had into me. And although she can no longer travel, I know that she’s watching tonight, and that tonight is her night as well.
“I don’t know what kind of lives John McCain thinks that celebrities lead, but this has been mine. These are my heroes. Theirs are the stories that shaped my life. And it is on their behalf that I intend to win this election and keep our promise alive as President of the United States.”
Meanwhile, as Barack is filling up stadium after stadium, McCain is stuggling to capture the same enthusiasm for next week’s Republican convention. Buses have been reportedly dispatched by campaign organizers from neighbouring cities in hopes of being able to group up a measly 10 000 supporters.

Boohooo republicans! BOOOHOOOOO.
Time to pack! Your sacking of America it’s OVER Republicans, OVER!
I cried during his speech because he spoke the truth!! If Obama does not win, America will go even further downhill in the next 4 years!! OBAMA ‘08!!!!!
ladies & gentlemen…the next president of the united states!
I was Hillary’s supporter, and was bummed that she didn’t win and that Obama didn’t pick her for the VP running mate… but now, I really am sold, I want and wish that he wins. I am too, ready for something new.
By the way, I live in Denver, and it has been CRAZY!!!! I cannot wait for it to go back to normal again…. It was nice having the crowd but, gosh!
An amazing speech by and amazing Man!! America is on it’s way back to the top thanks to President Obama!!
Where was his “spiritual advisor” Jeremiah Wrong? I was really looking forward to hearing him speak again, “God Damn America, God Damn America!!”
Do you people realize that Mr Hussein Obama is the least experienced person to run for President in the last 100 years? Besides being rasict, he simply isn’t qualified. Maybe in 8 yrs or so, but not yet. I’d vote for Biden long before B. Rock.
Thank God McCain is going to win anyway.
Since when did this become a politics blog? Seriously I come on here to read celebrity news and get away from the constant mind numbing coverage of this election and there is just post after post about Obama and McCain….kinda over it.
jrb….that is beacuse you are an idiot.
wow, love of gov’t programs reached a fevered pitch tonite.
if michelle and her brother both went from humble beginnings to the ivy league and 6figure jobs…and obama did the same, then WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH THE COUNTRY AGAIN? and wasn’t this dude borne out of the fevered pitch of the anti war movement when it looked hopeless in iraq? what exactly is his point now?
GD screw john edwards for his hubris. had he realized he would be found out, hillary would have smoked this shadeball by feb.
it’s so funny how they turn into hard working every day americans for this, but back to big gov’t bureaucrats for their solutions for everyone else despite what obviously worked for them. (even though everything in obama’s career is graft, and bs).
meanwhile obama is already abusing his power thru classic chicago bullying and censorship.

this lying sham of a man, raised by marxists, coddled by nation of islamers, mentored by marxists, and blossomed in palestinian rallies and a black liberation church in the most politically corrupt city in the nation.
charming!
i’m sorry ya’ll i was moved, but this is the WRONG man.
when did he convert? why did he convert? and why is he hiding his past?
does anyone know anything about him besides his gloss?
The election was won tonight. McCain cant even get 10,000 people to show up in Ohio of all places for Saturday’s rally. America has changed and Mr. Obama represents what America is. McCain is war a mongering moron who wants to empty our pockets for war that was not necessary and even the Bush admin. is agreeing with Obama’s plans.
I have to wonder if there is any field that is not turned into a entertainment park in the united states. Why the heck is Obama feted like a pop star? Why all the screaming, he is only a politican after all.
Today I had to read that his wife plans to raise their children in the white house. And? Why is that news?
Where is the substance?
MeSoup, I agree completely in all you said below…The Obama support is alive and well in England, too, where I live at the moment. I have a big blue Obama sign on my back car window, and I get honks and thumbs up from the English everyday. It’s worldwide, the enthusiasm and respect, and thank god for that!
I was Hillary’s supporter, and was bummed that she didn’t win and that Obama didn’t pick her for the VP running mate… but now, I really am sold, I want and wish that he wins. I am too, ready for something new.

That’s because conservatives are too busy actually working and spending time with their families. Somebody has to be responsible and pay the taxes to cover all the new gov’t handouts Obama is planning to give to irresponsible Americans (and citizens of Mexico here illegally). Question: If we all agree that big gov’t is broken, why do you want a candidate in Obama who only wants to make it even bigger?
I haven’t decided who I’m voting for. Please give me the best reason why I should vote for Obama.
Why should you vote for Obama? Because if you do, the Dem’s will pick up the day of the election, take you to the polling station AND GIVE YOU A FREE SANDWICH!! The scary part is I’m not even making that part up, it’s the 100% truth. The inner-cities are so “fired-up” with Obamania that they need a free sandwich to vote for him.
I honestly hope & pray that you all that are for him, one day you will see what he is really made up of. And I hope & pray that its not when OR if he gets into the White House.
Myself have seen what he is “about” for a while.
Im not shooting for McCain just yet. But Im sure in the hell not for him and his “values and change”and so forth.
I have said it before and time again, I need and want a President that will do no matter what to protect me and my country.
In fact, I wish that my Governer was running for President. And he is a Dem. But different parts of the nation, Dems are different. Mine Governer Brad Henry, is a very conservative Democrat. I would vote Democrat ONLY if they were conservatives.
Im not upset, nor scared of this election. I honestly do not think that Obama will be our next President.
i don’t want a president that is popular. if so i would vote for brad pitt or something. a good leader doesn’t care about being popular or liked. they need to make tough decisions that are not always agreed with. i really don’t like what has happened with obama. people forget that the president works for us. people are following him like he is a god and that is not heathly.
AMEN WELL SAID POST 18!
McCains Running Mate ?
Nevertheless, I’ve spent several hours now reading about, and watching video clips of, 44-year-old Alaska governor Sarah Heath Palin. There are indications that she’s on McCain’s radar, along with many other candidates. I, for one, am very, very impressed with her. Indeed, I’m convinced already that it’s no fluke that she’s more popular with her constituents than any other current American governor (roughly a 90% approval rating). And I’m finding myself increasingly receptive to, and even persuaded by, the idea that she would be not merely a bold pick, but a smart pick, as McCain’s running mate.
If you’re not acquainted with Gov. Palin already, you owe it to yourself to get up to speed.
Of course, in between his (Obama) apologies for his boneheaded connections to convicted influence peddler Tony Rezko and his Congressional earmarks to Michelle’s employer, Barack Obama can talk a very good game about the (toothless and ineffective) ethics bill he co-sponsored (along with many other senators) in the U.S. Senate. But Sarah Palin actually risked her entire political career to take on her own party’s entrenched leadership, and then thoroughly and effectively cleaned house in the largest state in the Union. Between her and Obama, who’s already proven him- or herself more likely to provide the “change you can believe in”?
Don’t buy the HYPE.
He is being sold like a Madison Ave product, don’t be fooled, think for youselves…
I dont see how HONEST people can say that Bush is the one that hurt the economy.
Didnt Clinton fuck the American people up with NAFTA?!?
Do they not know let UNDERSTANFD what that did to all of us?!?!
Thats like blaming Bush for Hurrican Katrina! - IF blame has to be pointed - -it was their own damn government and local officials fault! They KNEW this hurricane was coming for days/weeks~!
They didnt care about their own people.
Liberals are so messed up.
There are a lot of voters, particularly white, working-class voters, who are against NAFTA.
BUT-
Part of the reason Obama has gone silent on NAFTA is because it riles up some unions and staunch Democrats, but not independent and swing voters. NAFTA is an easy target because some voters blame such trade deals for lost jobs.
And Obama isnt going to change this or let alone even try.
He is a chicken pansy.
Obama criticizes John McCain for voting with President Bush (and the Republicans and fellow Americans who support them) over 90% of the time. Considering Obama NEVER votes against the Democrats, he shouldn’t throw stones; look at the mess the Democrats in Congress have made since 2006! Obama has nothing to be proud of.
Obama’s Speech
Must have been great from the floor…
From my living room he obviously wasn’t talking to me, he never looked into the camera where the countless millions were watching, and when he did it was always very brief with an intense look in his eyes and he was yelling.
please explain to me what has Barak Obama EVER done?
He has no executive experience, he never introduced a major (or minor) bill in the US Senate, he was not in the US military, he has no accomplishments in the private sector….
What has he ever done?
As a country engineer in a “jerkwater” part of the world, I HAVE MORE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAN OBAMA. Is this the best that the Democrats can come up with?
LAUGH MY A*S OFF! (But I admit I do it in a sad manner, looking at the demise of a once great political party; i.e., the Democrats.)
Obama tied to Iraqi government fraud?”
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=70972
“Hundreds of millions in deals with candidate’s associates”
“JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama’s office engaged in six months of negotiations with a company controlled by convicted criminal Tony Rezko to lobby the U.S. government to push through a nixed $50 million contact to train Iraqi security personnel at a site in Chicago.
“The contract was awarded to Rezko’s company while Aiham Alsammarae, a long-time, close Rezko friend and a contributor to Obama’s campaign, served as Iraq’s U.S.-appointed electricity minister, the senator’s office confirms.
“Rezko was a major Obama fundraiser and associate for two decades.
“Alsammarae also awarded another Rezko-controlled operation as part of a $150 million contract to construct a 250-megawatt electricity plant in Iraq.
“Alsammarae later was arrested by Iraqi authorities for bilking the coalition government out of some $650 million. He was sprung from prison under questionable circumstances in 2006 and escaped from Iraq, where he is still wanted for questioning with regard to major financial crimes.
“The information raises questions into the nature of Obama’s relationship with multiple deals made by Iraq’s Electricity Ministry while Alsammarae was in charge. Obama has ties to Alsammarae and to the recipients of several of the massive contracts Alsammarae handed out.”
Georgia to Sever Diplomatic Ties With Russia !
Okay with that said…..I know what Bush would do in this, and also McCain and even Obama.
BUSH = KILL
McCain = RECON
Obama = He is hiding under a rock while asking his VP what in the hell to do.
.
Truth hurts.
Palin or Romney ?
I say Romney.
Obama’s Berlin speech was, just as Obama’s race speech was, just as his Iowa victory speech was, just as his 2004 convention address was…
Obama’s speech was predictable, it was implausible, and it was strikingly, inexplicably, angry.
.
Predictable: I could have prewritten a lot of it – “four more years that look like the past eight,†“voting together 90 percent of the time,†“McCain is no independent.†Anecdotes of working men who have to ship their equipment overseas, the reference to “a city drowning,†the implicit comparison of himself to Martin Luther King. If you’ve seen any of Obama’s previous speeches, you’ve heard a lot of this stuff before. He even reused the not a “red America, not a blue America, but the United States of America,†his signature line from the 2004 address.
.
Angry: Of all the aspects of this speech, the anger was the part that surprised me the most. I didn’t expect him to take it easy on McCain, but after McCain’s “well done,†ad, I wondered if they would take out some of the sharper or snippier lines. I can’t imagine anything came out, unless this morning’s version included him dropping the F-bomb. The red tie fits Obama tonight, because he was angry. As another person noted to me while Obama was giving the speech, McCain’s congratulatory ad looks out of place tonight, as he just made a nice gesture to a guy ripping him six ways to Sunday.
.
Obama was bitter. Clinging, I guess you could say.
.
Having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Obama won. He’s promising the moon, the sun, the stars, a chicken in every pot, and government-managed health care for all. It’s tempting, as everyone wants to believe in a free lunch. Sometimes, the American people have to see that ideas that sound too good to be true always are, and that command-and-control big government doesn’t work.
I like Romeny (thumbs up)
But I think its going to be Palin.
(tid bit about her:…..
She was preggers and the doctors told her to get an abortion - defects. She didnt. SHOWS HER HUMANITY!
Anywho - her baby has Downs.
She is a great person to take on such a burden and such a great responsibilty!
She is a HELL CAT in such a loving way to say.
Research her - Im impressed.
Jesus people you are so transparent. The only reason you are Pro-Dem and Anti Republican isn’t because of the economy, war, etc. It is because of Bush’s and McCain’s Stance on Gay Marriage. If they flipped it and Obama was against it and McCain for it….YOU WOULD BE SCREAMING 4 More years! Scary to think that people think it is all Bush’s fault. The Democrats Run Congress. The President is but a mouthpiece for them. So expect more of the same regardless of who wins. Idiots.
He will not win.
He is a great ACTOR…along the lines of our great thespians Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington.
We already elected one actor as President (Reagan for all you un-enlightned PH fans), and he had decades of EXPERIENCE under his belt BEFORE he was elected.
OBAMA is an attractive character “created” by the hollywood/Democratic machine.
He will not win.
Obama has no experience doing anything he promises to do. His home state is one of the worse states in every sense and still people expect him to be able to run a country. Please!

Everyone get out your crossbows and blunderbuss to help defend America if Obama makes it into the White House!!! On a positive note, we’ll all have free, inefficient health care to take care of our wounds.
This man scares me very much.
If this idiot gets elected he’s absolutely going to give away the farm!

This is absolutely shocking & reprehensible. He plans to unilaterally disarm our nation. The question is… for what? And more specifically, for whom ?
